Eric Garcia to Barcelona

What I don't understand is, if the premise is that a player who opponents can currently run past easily, as if he doesn't exist, can be taught to defend & therefore overcome this drawback in the future, why don't we try finding a kid who is equally good at passing, but who is bigger & 3 yards faster, & teach him instead ?
Name him and you’ve got an audience.

I don't know about that mate. I mean there's dinho, not his natural position but still better than Garcia, and then there's THB who I think is probably a better fit at CB. I am just saying lets not get carried away, he's ok but the hype can get crazy sometimes.

Garcia is def the best CB we have after Laporte, looking at our CB options. Fernandinho is stable too. But Garcia has proven to be much better than both Otamendi and Stones. His anticipation, reading of the game, interceptions. I’m really pleased with him. I would love to have him as a 3rd or 4th choice for a few years but I’m afraid he won’t wait for his chance, especially with Barca knocking on his door.

he is a kid ,he is not better than the others,he is potentially better and has a lot to learn

Sure he’s a kid, but I rate him more than Stones and Otamendi. Pep seem to do the same, as he get picked ahead of them. I have yet to see a reckless challenge from Eric Garcia. He barely make any mistakes, reads the game so well, clears the ball. He is really gifted. But sure, he has a lot to learn.

He is also easily out run

His passing to find our forward players is probably the best of all our CBs.

Just from the few games I've seen I'm surprised how consistently his risky passes always come off.

Hopefully he doesn't go, he is no where near the finished article and shouldn't be our starter next season, but I'd like him developing here.

For a young player in a very difficult position his reading of the game is simply outstanding, and it has to be to compensate for lack of pace and height.

Agree with this but my only concern is his pace alongside Laporte who’s not the quickest, with a not so quick rodri sitting in front. Esp with the high line we play

Id take a defender who can read the game and has great positional sense than a pacey rash defender who is constantly caught out of position.

Bit like comparing Vertonghen to Otamendi...

In what world does Otamendi have pace?

I'll be honest, I don't see what all the fuss is about Garcia

But Pep seems to think he's the dogs bollocks and as Pep knows a million times more about football than I do, I'll trust his judgement

Does he not? He’s pacier than Laporte or Garcia isn’t he?
He’s no Roadrunner but I’d say Laporte is the quickest out of those three mentioned.

Even though he’s been a good player for us, Otamendi suffers from having one or two ‘brain farts’ each game.
