£41m seems like a lot of money for a back up, unless there is no intention of him being a back up. We're getting a good deal Torres, so I suppose that balances it out.

We could be planning on a back 3 with Mendy and Cancelo wing backs. Which means we could need another CB or Rodri/Fern could drop in as a 3rd defender whilst Mendy and Cancelo bomb on.

Walker and Ake flanking Larporte will be the fastest CB trio in the league :)

Man City have found an agreement to sign Nathan Aké from Bournemouth. €43M will be the fee - paperworks time to complete the deal. Pep wants him after problems for Koulibaly (Man City are still angry with Napoli because of Jorginho/Chelsea deal two years ago)

Think he’ll play plenty , not just back up. Think he’ll surprise a few with both appearances and ability.

Can't remember many at all, from headers. Most set peices I remember we clear fairly effectively. Would like to see what percentage of goals we conceded were from set peices and how many were breakaways.

Said this all summer when people were clambering after fat**** fat-head, we just don't concede headed goals in the frequency that people try to make out we do. It's a pathetic lazy way of saying I want a big fucker because that's what has traditionally happened in this country.

Don't know about paying the quoted £40M for him, but I guess that's the homegrown premium in action. Anyway, good signing as a 3rd/4th choice CB and emergency LB but hope we are still planning on signing a genuinely top class CB ( I don't think Ake is at that level).

I was assuming Chelsea’s £40m buyback clause might be the reason?

I didn't come to that conclusion at all - I didn't even mention Garcia in my post. I've said in this thread and others I think we will try to bring in a right footed center half (Koulibaly or another) so the group is Laporte, Ake, Garcia and a new right footed signing. Did you mean to respond to someone else?

He has a fairly decent amount of experience at LB. As well as at DM. It's not like these are some outlandish suggestions. He has pace, which makes him a better candidate to play at FB than many other CB's....

Cover in an emergency but we forever read a player can cover in multi positions and they are crap unless like zinchy and Delph and they are trained over months to do it

I think he has the potential to be very good . He has not been signed for back up but he will be rotated with the other centre halves . I think if stones stays which I hope he doesn’t then we will not go back in for a another defender as that would give us Laporte stones ake and Garcia . Can ake okay left back ?
