OK first news today not so good.

England hospital deaths today is 15. It was just 4 last Saturday.

However 0 are from the NW.

And there is a lot of catch up atop cases from last 3 or 4 days.

Details:

7 Aug 0

6 Aug adds 3 = 4 after two days

5 Aug adds 1 = 3 after three days

4 Aug adds 1 = 5 after four days

3 Aug adds 0 = 10 after five days. First non single figure in last 8 days of five day totals but been 10 for two days now so is as close as it could be to maintaining that run.

2 Aug added 1 = 7 after six days.

The other 9 are over a week old - most recent 2 added to 31 July which is still just 4 after 8 days.

All the others were earlier back to 13July.

Yorks had the most deaths in this batch - 8 of the 15 and 2 of the most recent 3. NW as noted had 0.

Scotland data 0 deaths again.

3 in ICU (-1)

261 in hospital (-1)

But cases = 60. With a test % ratio of 1.3% - a new high. And up on yesterdays 43 / 0/9%

39 of the 60 from Grampian region. 9 from Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Suspect the majority of the 39 will be related to the outbreak.

Weekly Scottish data to 8 August.

305 cases from 76,392 tests.

60 Scottish care homes (6%) with at least one Covid case.

0 new care home residents tested positive for week ending 31 July.

Deaths 0 v 0

Cases 18 v 60

Test % 0.5% v 1.3%

ICU 3 v 3

Patients 260 v 261

So UK hospital total today is 16 - it was 6 last Saturday - though was by some margin a new low as Saturday numbers are from Friday so not weekend data (Sun/Mon reporting Sat/Sun) that are nearly always low.

Even so today from England is a bit of a disappointment but could easily be just a statistical blip.

All settings last Saturday later added 68 out of hospital to that 6 to total 74.

Cases last Saturday outside of England were 39. Today they are already 79.

The UK total ended up being 771 cases from 190, 220 tests - 147, 002 of them pillar 1 & 2 - about 0.55%

The 15 Englad hospital deaths were aged between 67 and 100 and all had known underlying conditions aside from one who was 91.

N Ireland case data by the way is 15 from 6064 tests = 0.25%

There were 125 new cases in N Ireland in past week.

OK test data in for UK

758 new cases - down from 771 last Saturday.

140, 125 Pillar 1 & 2 (last Saturday the 771 was found from 147, 002)

181, 864 tests in total done in UK yesterday. but pillar 1 & 2 are what matter as these are where all the cases come from.

49 of Scotland's 60 new cases today were from the 20-65 age bracket. 4 cases in those older than 65 and 7 in those younger than 20.

Blimey stat overload!

Should we perhaps rename this the United Kingdom Covid-19 statistics thread?

Thank you - that is interesting and fits the view that might explain why more cases is not obviously translating into more partients in hospital or deaths.

Indeed Preston today has rather bluntly told its young people not to 'kill granny' as they have noted how many of the new cases are in the under 30s.
