Eric Garcia to Barcelona

20 years, sure - happy to wager on that as well

Didn't bet, as I'm not stupid or up my own arse enough to guess where Pep might feel like managing, when he leaves City. It's looking very likely he will be signing yet another extension here first though, unless Khaldoon fires him.

Then he might fancy Italy, or change his mind re interrnational football, or sign yet another deal here.

When he finally loses his mojo, I imagine he'll go back whence he came, but he might change his mind on that too.

Also says he inevitably will be returning, so there

because its his home...not just for the club - maybe he will return when he has achieved all he wants - Barca alone can not offer him everything he wants to achieve.

The word "inevitably" can also imply some reluctant acceptance.

The reality is that with existing debts and the Goldman loan you have circa £75m in interest payments alone to meet every year (and that’s assuming the present low interest payment regime continues - that will massively reign in any clubs spending - you also need to start paying back some of the £1.5 billion you’ll owe. As the recent Pandemic has taught us - even the most conservative business plans can get blown apart. The present regime have got your club in a right financial mess at the worst possible time.
I'd have said it's perfect timing myself, it's about time they had a bit of equality in La Liga. Barca being mid table would be a very fair outcome.

Who the heck is the Barcelona fan ? Thinking our ex Barcelona people will do them a favour Deluded. Then he says not a favour but wont burn there bridges of the lot of them only possibly Pep will go back but they are too badly run and there is too much politics in involved there always and he does not control what our selling price is you would think a Barcelona fan would understand the role of manager and the rest of the team like the sporting director etc. And the arrogance that they think they can get him on the cheap without even really doing anything to get him negotiation bid wise

Is it two or 1 year on his contract we have been saying two so has Pep but then he said 1 the other day

Think he could regret moving, We are a more stable better run club more secure financially he plays here we have a better manager he will have to up root himself ok its moving back home but its still moving across boarders. He are as successful as any side right now and still improving

I was told don't know how true its 1 Year but we have the option to extend by 12 months

Is it charity though? You received a 16 year old without paying a fee, developed elsewhere. You developed and profited from his minutes & contributions with very little salary impact. A developmental fee for 3 years is absolutely warranted and I have no contention with it

I do not concur that his value to Barca is that of what he would be on the open market, particularly when he is not open to the market - only returning to Barcelona

I do agree that some compromise will be needed and likely since I cannot envision Pep benching him - there are too many ways it would reflect badly for City IMHO, much less Pep. Barca, in this case, have little to lose apart from waiting a year to get him for free and, again, have most of the leverage from a negotiating standpoint. He has an expiring contract and only wants to return

I am just a bit surprised by City's stance, surely they are aware that Barca will not stump up market value for him - I can only assume the 23M figure was floated to pressure Barto to stump up more than 10M. A big reason why I think it'll end up somewhere in the middle, perhaps even incentive laden based on 1st team appearances, trophies etc.

The other influencing factors here would be Puyol & De la Pena - it's a complicated situation that will require some cool heads so we'll see how it plays out
Without paying a fee? We paid £1.53million compensation, I'm sure you can stump up £30million to buy him back. How do you know he's not open to other clubs? Now it's public I dare say others are asking about him as we speak. Or do you speak to Eric on a daily basis in between calls to Pep (as you keep telling everyone what he's thinking so must be best buds)?

Yet bright enough to boast those numbers

City will not sell for less than at least £15m up front. It's not just about the money, it's the message it sends to others. The final financial decision will be khaldoon's, not Pep's or Txiki's. Txiki negotiates but Khaldoon signs off. He is in no mood to be bullied by any of footballs 'aristocracy'. This was quite clear last summer with Sane.

Barcelona are not in no-lose situation. Garcia going back to train with the EDS next season will not help his development. A year in the life of a 19 year old is a long time. Having decided to move, he'll want to move now. Failing a summer move, he'll have time to re-think. Perhaps watch Barca's financial post Covid problems, perhaps question Barcas desire. He'll want to be paid his 'new contact' amount now, whether that be from Barca or City, and not have to wait another year. Meantime he'll see Barca bidding for other players over the rest of the window and will question how much they really want him. All if's and maybe's, but what is quite clear it is not a straightforward no-loose situation for Barca

True. I can think of another Spanish team that looks to be desperately in need of a central defender who is assured in possession...

I doubt Barca would still be willing to sign him to an attractive contract if he misses a year of development. And that goes against Eric Garcia's interest as well. With the way Barca is handling this, Eric Garcia is going to beg to Pep to be back to his good graces.

Yeah agree with that but it might be just he wants to go home to his old neighbourhood that maybe his pull.

Shady maneuvering by Barcelona now it seems. They have potentially deprived a young lad of the opportunity to be a CL winner at the tender age of 19 whilst also jeopardising his development because they are trying to strong arm a club to sell significantly below market rate. Just pay the fair value.
