Love Kev and Lewandoski is top class but we still haven’t got anybody playing the game at this moment in time who can touch him. It’s not going to last forever of course but right now and for the next couple of years he’s still the man.
Well it would be good fun to watch eh?

I grew up with Kinky and always wondered what he'd be like in a decent team. Guess Messi would be a decent comparison...

Do those 11 players working hard include Mahrez and/or Sane? His work rate isn’t considerably less than either of those and both of them have played for us at anfield.

Even a Messi jogging around the pitch for 90 minutes requires two people to mark him and probably a third to offer cover meaning there’s acres of space somewhere else for Kdb, Sterling, Aguero, Foden etc and in possession against low blocks he can shuffle it to one side and stick it in the corner from anywhere.

Messi’s problem at Barca is it’s all centred around him with nobody else to really worry about for the opposition. Suarez is well past it, Griezmann has been a disaster and dembele can’t get fit backed up with a pedestrian midfield. Stick him in our side and it’s frightening. With the exception of a player exchange unless it was Garcia and a few other expendable players I’d offer Barca whatever they wanted this summer to fund their rebuild. Never going to happen though
Yes they do. Mahrez and sane work way harder than messi off the ball. They don’t give as much on the ball as the master so it’s swings and roundabouts.
The difference is though they don’t command anywhere near the wages. And you think messi will come here and play a bit part role? No.
With messi you have to take the good with then bad but sadly, yet not unsurprisingly, the bad is seeping into his game more and more at his age.

True but how long is pep staying? What if he leaves next season?

He's 100M wages man. Imagine it won't work out , we would be incredible fucked

I would say at least 2-3 years (hopefully)

One of the reasons Torres signed with us was because we had Pep. Why sign for us if Pep was off anytime soon?

Having Pep as manager isn't a guarantee that he will start performing again. He showing signs of fatigue
He’s not stopped performing Ray. Have a gander at his seasons highlights. Have a look at his goals and assists, his general play. Saying he’s not performing tells me you’ve not watched him at all this year.

This is Messi we are talking about. He would perform in any team, in any league in the world.

He is that good.

Still showing signs of mental and physical fatigue and decline. Not the ideal components of a big money move to a club who wants to be challenging at the top end of football.

Even tonight he was class imo. He'd replace Silva in our team. But would his presence cos issues within the squad?

Who would you like us to sign out of interest?

Mbappe but even that is not a guarantee and not possible. Would be just as expensive but is a younger and fresher player. We still have Gabriel Jesus on our books as well.

Messi would do more for us as a team in two years than Mbappe would in the same time. Only difference is we would pay over 200m for Mbappe and when he fucked off to Spain we’d get a sell on.
If I was a club accountant I’d agree but I’m a fan of the game who wants to see the best players in the world doing their thing.Theres a few players who could fill the CF position, nobody could fill the Messi position.

There is no guarantee that Messi can replicate what he had done at Barcelona that he could do at City in his current state.

Messi is as close a guarantee in football as you will ever get - even now. We won’t agree judging from the last hour so it’s time to call it a day.

Atalanta have scored more league goals than Barcelona. Let that sink in. And it's not because Atalanta are full with talented forwards and Barca with rubbish ones.

The usual mental operation that happens in the heads of many posters in this thread is to completely separate Messi from the failings of Barcelona and entirely shift the blame on his team mates and the manager.

Truth is Messi is a passenger for most of the games and brilliant actions are followed from actions of complete disappearance, especially when the team defends and when the chips are down: Roma, Liverpool, Bayern. Barca conceded 15 goals in those 3 games and scored just 2 with Messi playing mostly in his usual walking pace.

People are blinded by individual stats. We don't need Messi to put 8 past Watford, 6 past Villa or even 4 past Liverpool. Our problems are at the other end and they won't get solved by including a passenger in the team.

Individual stats, taken separately from the stats of the team, mask the fact that Messi has gradually become a walking shadow of his brilliant self and fails Barca and Argentina in crunch games again and again. To walk is not to lead by example. Yesterday Barca ran just 98km. That's easily the worst record of any team in any quarter final in the CL over the last decade. And Messi is a big reason for that record.

I appreciate that people say we can afford his wages and associated costs but I simply can't see it on any level

But it's ridiculous that people think he's not good enough when he's just come off a season that represents the best season of Aguero's goalsoring and KDB's assisting combined.

Thinking he isn't right for us, at this time, is not the same as thinking he isn't good enough.

Entirely academic, as it is never happening regardless.

He'd do well going to italy, he'd be great, and can continue his contest with Ronaldo.
A good few years of stats and numbers. But i wouldn't want him here. Not at this point.
