Eric Garcia to Barcelona

Can easily stick to our valuation, Barcelona have no clout to lowball offers. No clout on the pitch, and none off it.

I feel sorry for eric, i really do. They will get him in as PR stunt, and then spend big on players they actually need, he'll be lucky if he sees the bench.

Who the manager will be, what changes are coming, if any, what squad, all very much in the air.

I also think they desperately need rid of messi, if they want to rebuild. As good as he is, and he does carry them, it seems tge attacking superstars they spend fortunes on just cant function with him taking spotlight. Can't keep bringing in forward after forward at 100m+ each season and watching them struggle.

It’s interesting, there’s renewed speculation that Laporta is not only preparing for the election but that he intends to recruit Pep’s return. I am skeptical but the links suggesting it is possible are not unreliable
You have one hell of a rebuild to do.

On and off the pitch.

Rebuild your team, rebuild the stadium, rebuild the training ground, new President, New Board, New Coach/Manager, Rebuild the reputation of a wonderful total football team. Replace the greatest player of his generation.

Your looking at a billion euros minimum, you need investment, maybe you should call up MBS and tell him Barca is the new Newcastle.

From what I can see Barca is broken, very broken and much of it self inflicted.

Even if Laporte got the 3 amigo's back in, which I believe could be possible, I think the size of this mess is even beyond there collective outstanding credentials.

Bring all the catalan cantera kids home, give the cules some coolade, job done.

Joking aside, Barcelona Will rebuild, they have the resorces (infinite debt nobody will ever question, but still resources), they have the name and demands that come with that, and come what may theyl get back up there.

It is just a pity for eric he will get lost in all that. But that is his choice.

I have no idea how Garcia will fair at Barca and nor do I care once he has left. The only thing that matters is the fee and the message it sends

I think situation about Garcia is sorted out. He is leaving. Laporte, Koulabaily, Ake and stones are our CB pairing next season. We do not change our transfer plan at the last minutes. We are a well run club. If someone better is available we wont be seeing for that chance. What ever we are chasing the best (at least prospects) anyways.

Barca perspective they need a good CB/proven CB. Pique - old, Umtiti - they were trying to sell before, Lenglet - not world class/ good player. So a dominant Van dijk/Laporte like signing is needed.
Garcia perspective - He is returning home to one of the best teams in the world with Leo messi. Ok they are rebuilding but still he will find space in it.
For us - He was never ours. At least he never felt so. Its very difficult to change jobs (or even GF) the first time. Once you change its easier the second or much easier 3/4th time. Decent money will be better.

On the pitch issues directly linked to off the pitch issues, apparently elections are going to be called - that's the silver lining in all of this
Different people same problems.

Financially the world is a very different place due to covid. Even Barca will find it difficult to obtain the investment.

World is indeed a different place but different people managing/leading Barcelona will not result in same problems - there's no logic to that conclusion

Squad, manager and director restructure desperately needed. Last night was the culmination in a lack of direction and ethos in building a team. Enrique did the Zidane job of managing MSN, but they haven't really worked to build a team or style of play to the manager.

In your opinion, do you think Messi will stay? (Not, will he come to City)

Hope we get our deal soon. Otherwise they might get someone in charge who realizes they actually need good dominant defenders.

Assuming they ever wanted a deal in the first place!

Political posturing to the fans, to paper over the cracks.

All of which disseminate from the board - a board that puts in sporting leadership to guide & support the team, including the cantera

There's no Neymar to partner Leo and I remarked about this in the run up to the Bayern QF, 3 years and several hundred million wasted and Messi is more isolated

The rumours are that Leo insists on not just calling elections early but for Bartomeu resigning - purportedly elections are being advanced (March being speculated) but no sign of Barto resigning just yet. My gut says only way Messi remains is if there is a leadership shift away from that of Bartomeu & Rosell (Who is speculated to run again) else he will leave

To solve the problems is going to take enormous investment to get you back to any sort of level.

Messi, Pique, Swarez, Busquets, Vidal, Dembele finished.

You trying to sign a young kid as your new CB in Garcia, that's how much you have fallen.

The irony of Coutinho scoring two against you last night was immense.

I'm sure Eric loves Barcelona and fair enough but I'd be surprised if he didn't have second thoughts on this one last night. Barca are entering a decline and it might last a decade or more. City, on the other hand, might provide a better enviroment for young players

Really? Do you really think it is That simple?

What do you think the new board will do that the previous hasn't, and what is it this lot got so wrong?

They got in every superstar in their peak, in pretty muchbevery position. They brought in managers that 'get' the club, former players, those that 'share the philosophy etc, rather than big names that don't. They kept messi at all cost. All things that fans want to see.

What would the new lot do different, can the lot and start again with local youth? would they be given the time with a lack of success that comes with? doubt it.

Easy to write Barca off but remember 12 months ago and people were doing the same with Bayern after Robben and Ribery left. These sides are pre-eminent in their league and have fantastic young players and access to the best players in their league and South America. I think it has been obvious for some time that Barcelona were at the end of their cycle and need to rebuild.

You should consider though that this game was high risk by Bayern. Bayern were never going to park the bus as most teams do against Barca or Real Madrid. Instead they moved their team forwards and played in the Barca half. Early on Barca managed to play through them and counter-attack successfully but missed their chances. Had they taken them it could have been different. They went down early in a crazy game and were left chasing the game so conceded more.
