The time for signing Messi has been and gone. He is in decline and nothing will change that.
He isnt going to fix our defense.
 
I dont think even at this time messi will leave barca. If he leaves then he will be regarded as a great traiter who left the team in difficult times. Yes he is not a good leader but Even for ones pride one cannot leave in difficult times. Even If he leaves he will leave making the club in better position. May be next year.
 
I have always thought the Sheikh wanted a vanity signing at some point, a statement signing. I think he would put his hand down the back of the sofa for Messi just for the hell of it .
 
Leo's future will be tied to whether Bartomeu resigns IMHO and elections are called immediately. I think Messi probably should've pressed this 2 years ago
 
I see reports Barcelona are in discussions with Pochetino to take over.

Bloody hope so. Might finally put to bed the 'he hasnt got a job yet so there must be an agreement in place for him to replace pep' chat.

The team is a busted flush, so it's hard to see if Messi still has something special to offer. He was shit tonight and against Liverpool last year. My feeling is his time has been and gone..
 
If there's a chance we can sign Messi, then we sign him. Simple as that. Of course, the cost should be reasonable. But, he's Messi - the best player in the world. Even if his game doesn't translate, his signing would be a perfect slap on the hateful eight's faces.

After seeing the leak on his pay packet and bonus’s, I don’t think we should go anywhere near him. Maybe a few years ago but certainly not now.
 
For me few things to think about:

Regardless of being the very best ever, currently he isn’t.
Would he take us to another level collectively on the pitch - not sure he would
Would he have the desire to succeed - probably not, although he could have an attitude of wanting to prove he could do it in another country perhaps
Cost probably not a major issue depending on whether they are covered by sponsors. I’ve no idea, but whether club or club arranged sponsor pay him 500k is irrelevant as it would upset others in the squad
Do we want to be associated with buying an ageing star to sell shirts - I don’t think so

So as much as I would have loved it a couple of years ago, now probably not.
Prefer to see young kids with Foden on the back of their city shirts than messi

Bollocks it pays for itself. We don't make as much money as Barca and don't have nearly as many fans for these shirt sales. He'd keep his image rights so there'd be no money made there either.

Barca pay Griezmann over 800k a week to come in line with Messi's 1.2mil. So you think that if we were paying Messi like 1.4mil a week De Bruyne et al would be happy on what they are? Don't be silly
