Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Khaldoon end of season review coming up I assume soon.

Wonder whats his take in this CL failure and the way we let Liverpool win the league with 20 points ahead...

Probably will be mostly about our CAS win tho.

There could be an interesting turn tho if PSG would manage to deliver CL trophy with their relation to Qatar.
Wonder how much pressure City would put on CL then.
The highlight of our season was winning at CAS. And the League Cup.

Not good enough but I'd take it if we gave everything and then went down just because we weren't good enough

I know the game was on a knife-edge but it should never have been so, and it was so because of the inexplicable selection of Gundogan, Fernandinho and Rodri.

The game hinged on their second goal. Clear foul on Laporte.

However, I can’t get my head around an attacker being offside if they are in the eyeline of a goalkeeper whilst being offside, whereas an attacker offside making the last defender commit to moving towards them in case their armpit is in line with the defender‘s heel isn’t.

If Garcia had ignored their offside player, he’d have cleared the ball easily, meaning their offside player had a direct influence on their goal.

He'll probably be rather scathing in truth, albeit optimistic about the future.

He has well and truly been found out, the high line is a joke, fast players kill it, we were the perfect team for Lyon, Bayern will kill them.
he has no plan B
We didn't even need a plan B. Foden and Bernado with City fast into the tackle and playing as we did against Real madrid would have been way too much for them. We didn't need to reinvent the wheel. We had a system that works.

Shouldn't have been left relying on marginal decisions and at the mercy of refereeing error. You know we messed up in our own team selection.

It was such a gutless way to lose. At least die standing up. Yes the defence is absolutely pathetic and yes he bought most of them but to have the worlds slowest midfield "protecting" them and yes he bought most of them truly was depressing. Some of these signings..f*** me!!

At least this Torres lad and Ake have some pace.

We conceded a very unlucky goal.
Not really, we gifted them a goal with some poor defending, though the lad finished it very well. Trouble is we make a habit of conceding goals like that, and its because we have to run towards our own goal, Garcia made a great tackle, and was a bit unfortunate, but it was still poor team defending, and it usually is when the opposition score.

None of us know how the game will have panned out if we’d gone 4 at the back. It was rolling the dice. They had very few chances when we had 5 there. We didn't either mind.

Pep has always been about limiting the opposition attack and trying to allow his teams to create and have killers in the box. We weren’t that tonight, but we did limit them effectively, apart from the long ball and the second ball falling to their drama queen.

So it was unfortunate, then? Garcia reacted well enough, but his tackle fell to their player, rather than safely.

That being said, I don’t know why Pep doesn’t have pace as one of his central defender’s necessities. Play a high line; have the ability to get back quickly if a ball goes over the top of it.

Don't believe the unlucky thing.

Review the goals and I am sure you will find many mistakes.

It was one of those nights where we didn't get the breaks but we put ourselves under massive pressure by playing a negative conservative game to which we are not suited. This should not even be up for discussion. There was absolutely no need to play Fern, Rodri and Gundogan centrally. I have nothing against the individual players but as a team it left is reliant on Sterling making runs so we could find him with long balls and he was frequently isolated. We were very easy to defend against and we're slow centrally. I much prefer players like Foden and Bernardo defending from the front. Lyon were a very beatable side.

-------------------Ederson
Walker-------Garcia-----Laporte----Mendy
------------------Rodri
---------KDB-------------Foden
-------Mahrez----Jesus----Sterling
Thanks, why do you think he didn't name that team against real then ? Amazing we got past them really.

The back 4 against real was fine, did you complain then that he didn't play Mendy and Garcia ? I suspect not.

You said above that he should have started Bernardo, but this team doesn't, strange that, make your mind up.

For me, I'd have started the exact same 11 that knocked real out, because it has the right mix, but I didn't think Phil had a great game against real, and might have picked Mahrez or Bernardo in his place.

I agree that if we play that formation that we could have played Walker as the RCB, Cancelo at RWB, Mendy as LWB and Foden/Mahrez instead of Jesus, as we weren’t playing a striker, but 2 inside forwards.

The midfield 3 were chosen to keep the ball and we did that well.

Having gone behind, we could have brought either Silva on to try to get between the lines more.

We didn’t get the breaks, as you say, so not sure Pep needs to be sacked because of it.

Yeah unfortunate, but we do make a habit of that also, and first shot scores is another habit we have.

They‘d had a couple of long rangers straight at Eddy to be fair before they scored.

There must be a 6 foot plus centre back who can head, pass a ball and run the 100m in 11 seconds. We just need to find him.
