Spurs thread 2020/21

An injury and he gets the shirt,he can then try and keep it,Lloris is not all that

This is a bit of a myth. Lloris was actually outstanding last season. As he is most seasons. I hope you don’t mind if I repost the following that was posted by someone on a Spurs forum the other day:

The stats for 2019-20 show that he prevented more expected goals than any other keeper in the league. Saving numerous shots that most keepers would have failed to save more than compensates for the two errors he made.

I believe de Gea was top for this stat in 2018-19, but Lloris fared well. Both are heavily criticised at times for making 2-3 obvious mistakes each season, but they consistently outperform most keepers in the league when you really delve into their overall contribution, instead of focusing only on the number of mistakes. That would be like judging an attacking player on failing to score 2-3 sitters, while ignoring that they created numerous goals from nothing and converted numerous shots that most players would have missed / not even attempted.
EDIT: Lloris has made 13 errors that led to goals in the PL during his 8 years - that's only 1.6 per season.

During his first couple of seasons with us, Lloris was criticised for conceding a few goals by coming off his line when he shouldn't have. However, most people completely overlooked that Lloris had the best success rate in Europe in sweeping and one-on-one situations - by a ridiculous margin (I can't find the article, but it was something like 98% success compared to an average of 55% for the average keeper in the top 5 leagues) and prevented many goal scoring opportunities from arising in the first place. He was constantly put in those situations because we were using a system with a very high line (dependent upon a sweeper keeper) that our outfield players were in the process of learning (and weren't all suited to - Kaboul, Dawson etc.).

He said he was leaving Burnley in search of regular football, talks of his hunger on Sky, then signs for a club as 3rd choice keeper where he has less of a chance of being number 1 than at Burnley. I'm disappointed in him personally.

same, hes turned into the Richard Wright, rob green type of keeper but about 5 years too soon

what the fuck?

He has gone to a club settling to be 2nd or 3rd keeper. He’s barely going to play and in his interview said he wants to be a good influence even if it is just off the pitch. Great move in terms of the club he’s gone but after declaring his Burnley move a disaster it’s strange he’s settling for the same outcome here.

Good move for him and good luck to him. Unfortunately he’s been well past it for years so will hardly get a look in - I suppose he is closer to the Sky and BT studios now though

He has never been able to kick a ball, frequently he booted it out of play or miles past our own players. I don't think Pep could exactly coach him into Ederson.
He has gone downhill in terms of shot stopping - if he carries on that trajectory he could become Ederson naturally without the footwork

What with the Edison bashing?

He has had a very good season, early season he saved us many times from a good hiding.

Brilliant signing, brilliant goalkeeper and he his distribution is magnificent.

I would love to know what has go on with Joe Hart.

Great keeper for us, although personally though he was very overrated.

But his fall from grace is dramatic ,something has gone very wrong.

You have just answered your own question. Brilliant signing, brilliant goalkeeper and his distribution is magnificent. Perhaps sub consciously but your key compliment on his ability was based on his footwork. There is no way he has ever saved us from a good hiding. Joe Hart was significantly better than Ederson at actually saving the ball “1 on 1s” / “reflex” etc etc. Some of his performances (Dortmund,Munich,Barcelona - I.e. big game moments) were genuine world class Emerson simply isn’t anywhere near that level at actual saving the ball and yes, his footwork is great but we play a team now that accentuates this (left back and tiring back drop parallel, centre half makes a triangle allowing us a spare man at all times)

I am not talking about the Joe Hart that played for us, he distribution was appalling but he was far better than 3rd choice at Burnley, kicked out of Torino, crap at West Ham.

He was a lot better than the above.

Ederson offers more than just his feet although it’s his best asset. He’s a very good goalkeepers and we gain more from him than he costs us. Also pulled off a number of fantastic save over the years. I do hope his one on one keeping improves.

I think Joe will do well at spurs and will play more than some people think. Maureen sets up normally defensive and that will suit Joe.
Sort of reminds me abit of Ray Celments when he left liverpool for spurs. At liverpool in those days teams hardly got a shot at liverpool's goal and when they did Clements would normally save it. When he went to spurs who weren't as good teams would get alot more shots at Clements and alot went in !. People said Clements is shit but it was the same Clements just playing for a team who's defence wasnt as good as liverpool.
That's why I think Hart will do well at spurs maureen will have a solid defence in front of Joe, Spurs have better defenders than Burnley.
I hope Joe does well
