Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

The board will have had a plan to replace Pep from the moment he signed. All serious businesses look to mitigate forward risks with 1, 3, 5 and even 10 year plans.
All key staff will be subject to succession planning in terms of replacement at completion of contracts and even to cover for sudden illnesses or long term injury.
If any key staff walked off into the sunset tomorrow then rest assured that there’s a prioritised list of replacements that’s constantly updated to consider suitability, cost and availability.
Pep, as part of the senior team, will himself be involved in planning for his own replacement.
Of course you’re correct, but I would have guessed with a degree of certainty That the board would have hoped to keep Pep beyond his initial contract and now, even after his current extension, I think they would love to get him for another 2-3 years.

In any case a confirmed end date for Pep will focus the board and put concrete plans in place.

Christ I hear some rubbish spouted about Vinny not having enough experience or being unproven, well would those people rather have Ancelotti, Mourinho or even Benitez? All have experience, all have had previous success at times but none of them would guarantee us anything with regard to success nor would any of their like be desperate to succeed. For me Vinny is an absolute must and it would be much easier to accept any dip during a rebuild with him in charge rather than people who have zero affiliation to our club like all these new kids on the block.

There is a reason Barca have gone to Koeman and Madrid have Zidane, and it wasn't because Koeman won fuck all at Everton nor Zidane had no experience, it was because they understand and align their philosophies to their clubs.
My thoughts exactly.

Anyone saying he isn’t qualified this that And the other are talking nonsense.

There were two cock-ups at the end of the season: FA Cup semi-final and Lyon.

Fernandinho was not credible as a central defender. It was quickly clear he couldn't play there. Stones was completely dropped. Garcia had emerged. Then there's the midfield shambles. We have good options in there. most squads would kill for Rodri, KDB, Bernardo and Foden but we used our three defensive midfield plodders who together are useless defensively and offensively. Really poor decisions when it mattered by Pep.

I just hope these were bad days in the office. Pep's CV is better than anyone elses.
100%

PSG have been in the CL 8 seasons in a row (less than us) and made the final. They also were taken over 3 years later.

RB Leipzig has as many CL semi finals as City, they were founded in 2009 and worked their way up from scratch.

City have been poor in Europe, no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

I don't understand why so many seem to think is it better to lose in a semi or a final rather than earlier on. If you dont win it then you are a loser, regardless of whether it's in the group stages or from a 90th minute goal in the final.

Far to early for Vinny.

He needs to obtain his elite coaching badges, make a success of Anderlecht, be number two to a top coach at a big club & succeed as no 1 at another big club in a competitive league.

Forget Vinny for another 5/6 years.

Nuno would be my choice if Pep doesn’t extend !!

Perhaps we’re all unrealistic to expect 3 titles on the bounce. United had no credible competition in the league when they achieved this. I often say it is not enough to do well, you need others to do badly.
This last season there was only two teams that could win the title, us and Liverpool.

The Premier league is at its weakest in terms of competition.

To finish 18 points behind the scousers was a very poor performance.

Barcelona no longer have money to burn.
And also and just as important, are not the team that every player wants to play for these days!

The same thing has happened with the rags, once most players wanted to play there, no longer the case.

You use the word rubbish, that sums your post up perfectly.

Explain why. Who would you appoint instead of Kompany? I've made a suggestion of Vieira because he was an influential player at the club despite being at the end of his career. I also like Thomas Tuchel at PSG.

There is far more to managing than spending money. They need to see how Vinny is tactically and how we sets his teams up. Maybe his philosophy is different to how the club want to move forward. Vinny was a great leader and player. We don't know how he will be as a "head coach" - The managers role now is around how they coach the team and set the strategy to play football.

I have no opinion on Vinny as a manager yet. My heart would love him to come back here but my head currently says no.

Vinny has recently turned down working with Pep. What better place was there for him to learn that working with one of the if not the best.

Remember Bryan Robson and even Roy Keane - failed as managers, were great leaders of men

Much as I love Pep, the sad fact is that Pellegrini did better in the CL for us than Pep has.

In the sense he got one round further, before freezing and doing the exact same thing pep did against lyon?

Please advise the last time there was 3+ horse race in the PL?

Teams that took points off us like Wolves have only consolidated further since promotion so I would baulk at the assertion the PL is at its weakest.

United took us for 6 also, surely a sign they have improved. The only obvious backslider is Spurs and they took 5 off us.

As I said it’s not enough to do well, others must do badly.

Last season was the worst premiership for years, it was poor.

Chelsea, United, Arsenal and Spurs all had their worst teams for many a year.
