Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Premier league weak ? You need close to 100 points to win it now - surely that has raised the standard ?
No, because the rest of the PL became quite poor/similar, despite us finishing a distant 2nd, we were still 15 popints ahead of a weak united/chelsea in 3rd/4th. The top 2 have been streeeta ahead of the rest the last 2 seasons, and the top 1 was, 3 years ago, this is not a strong league imho.

A strong league is where 4 or 5 are competing in it for the last 3 or 4 games.

Also 5 teams didn't get to 40 points, with the bottom side 13 points adrift of the team above.

Another measure is GD, we were 116 goals better than the bottom side, and more than 90 above 3 others, and even 15 better than the champions, and 37 better than the next, this is not the sign of a strong league either.

Agree with some of your points - but when was the last time 4 or 5 clubs were in with a chance of winning it with a few weeks to go ? Usually always a 2 horse race or 1 club wins it by a wide margin

That's the point though, it's not a strong league if only a couple have a chance every year, the top 2 are a country mile ahead at the moment.

The PL is becoming the same as Italy, Spain, and Germany, and everyone says they are "weak", Germany a one horse race for what 8 straight years (13 points ahead this year), Spain a 2 horse race for what 10 (barca 12 points ahead of the rest this year, yes a couple that atletico ran it closer), Italy pretty much a one horse race (ended up closer this year because juve collapsed at the end, but still won it), and then there's France since PSG were taken over (12 points with a game in hand when it was ended).

I thing 'strong' is the wrong word.

Don't disagree with your point, but you are talking about balance, rather than strength. The league now is generally far stronger than it was a few years ago, imho. It is just that the those ond or two at the top have pulled that far as head of the rest, and those at the bottom fallen behind.
But thd mid level teams are far stronger now than ever before, have far better players, managers and higher ambitions.

Agree, not as close as it was some time ago, but hardly any less competitive or lacking in quality.

I’m not sure we can contend that the Prem is becoming quite the same as the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga. City and Liverpool may have dominated for the last 3 seasons, but Bayern, Juventus, Barca and Madrid have been the only realistic winners of their leagues for a decade, because they have so much more money than all their rivals. We don’t. Chelsea, as can be seen from their current £230m splurge, and the rags have gobfuls of cash and the financial wherewithal to challenge for the title at any time. I expect the top 4 to be a keenly contested affair this season

Khaldoon: "I think again, it will be a comfortable conversation [Pep's future] and it will work out in the best way for Pep, for me and for the club. I’m very comfortable about that."

Khaldoon: "Pep and I have a very clear understanding about what is right for the club and what is not. We have a clear alignment in terms of where we see the future and what we want in terms of success for the club

Khaldoon on a Pep Guardiola contract extension: "Everything will work out naturally and in the right way. We have the right people involved. We have the right trust in each other and what’s best will happen."

2013/14 was the last time 3 or 4 clubs were in the title race with a handful of games to go..

Might as well have said 'squirm journalists, squirm!'

This season was a failure, we didn’t set out to just win the league cup however you can’t win everything every year. If he got a new contract he wouldn’t be rewarded for failure, he’d be awarded a contract for being unreal during his time with us. Nobody else could do what he’s done and whoever we get next will be a downgrade sadly.
If you look over the road to them lot, old purple nose didn’t win everything every year, its impossible, but they stuck by him in the lean times and reaped the rewards in other seasons . As angry as I was on numerous occasions this season, especially last week, Pep has done enough to earn an exstension if he wants one.

There's no obviously realistic alternative. Overall, I hope Pep extends his contract but he's blemished his record at City. I still think he's a great coach but he is capable of errors of judgement.

The season has been unsuccessful and the coach has fallen short of past standards. In part we were dealt a bad hand with injury, but the Lyon game was a self-inflicted disaster, and should be called out as such.
Every coach makes errors of judgement there hasn’t been one manager in the history of football who hasn’t . This season has been disappointing but he still is the best man for the job and on our really good days there isn’t a football team out there who plays better football than City. Let’s get behind him, he deserves that from us surely.
