It's a power play, he's just threatening the board. His deadline for termination of contract to be a free agent so he can actually leave Barça (realistically) is 31st of this month, so he's more or less just given Bartomeu a week to piss off or take action. And it will happen, he pulled a similar stunt with Argentina FA and returned the very next international break

I suspect you're right and given that Kun and potentially (hopefully not) Pep are closer to end of their time at City than the beginning, this is the last legitimate chance Messi has to lever us with Barca. But by the same token, if he's going to come here it's now or never too.

What a fascinating set of circumstances!

three maybe a bidding war BUT he will decide andit may not be. all about the money/wages and we have some things on our side at least - Pep, Txixi, and Kun to name 3 - our style fo football

Messi wont go to somewhere like China or the US yet - he still has something to prove - he is way too good still for those leagues.

I agree that the likes of Utd, Inter, Chelsea PSG coud all get involved

SORRAN feel unloved

Btw strange decision this (if true) from such a homegrown legend, abandoning ship when the going is rough. If I were a Barça fan I'd be majorly pissed.

I think if he wants to come to City it will be Pep’s decision whether or not.

if Pep thinks Messi will make the difference to winning CL he will take him. If he thinks it is a risk and could disrupt the team, then probably not

it’s a strange one. Cannot think of many top star players being at one club whole career then moving to another of a similar level whilst they are still not near retirement

Or maybe he has decided he wants to wind down his career in Argentina

So how organised is Bluemoon for this?

Who's tracking planes?
Who's working at the airport waiting for the first glance?
Who've we got on the ground in Spain? Can @SebastianBlue get off his arse and get to Barcelona for a sighting?

So many questions.
It unfortunately requires a flight across the Atlantic for me these days, which is prohibited for health reasons...

Otherwise I would be there in a black suit, standing beside a sky blue Benz (borrowed from my cousin who owns a executive chauffeur company there), holding up a placard reading “Sr. Messi”, with tres damas of questionable credentials and even more questionable attire hanging out the passenger door of the car.
