I can't see any outcome leaving us with egg on our faces because we have done nothing to push this 'deal'. None of us know even City have even made on offer; probably, yes, but we didn't start this off. He did. I think he'll stay based in him doing similar things before, albeit not as strongly as this time. If he comes...bloody hell. But City being embarrassed? No.

Messi is done at Barcelona. They've burnt the bridge with him now, they're now leaking things to the Spanish press to run him down and their president is just using Messi as a pawn in his game. No wonder he wants out, on top of how dismal on the pitch they're going to become for them, and their financial state. I for one can't wait to watch Barca crumble so see that Tebas dickhead lose his cash cow.

Of course there is a chance Messi could change his mind last minute, but I can't see it being done now. He's come to far. His interview when it happens may well be explosive, whenever he does it.

The tweet stating we advised him to do it with the Catalonian press and not the Argentinian press is telling for me. We almost have him now I feel.

That's just my opinion on what I'm reading from tolmie and the tweets and reports doing the rounds.

That feels like complete speculation that has taken on a life of its own. Someone floats an idea and then it gets tweeted a hundred times, goes on the web and before you know it it becomes accepted fact that City and Barcelona are negotiating players including Garcia, Bernardo and Jesus.

I don't think Barcelona have agreed in principle to sell Messi yet. However this player has given all his adult life to them. They are morally obliged to grant his wishes. If they do not their club is rotten, and football is rotten. Players like David Silva and Kompany who gave a smaller fraction of their careers are revered by fans and club officials. That is how it should be. If such a player decides that their time is up at the club you do everything you can to make it happen.

Much as people would love to see the greatest player in the history of football play for Manchester City, it is a complete non-starter to trade players like Jesus and Bernardo for a player who has a limited time left as an elite player. I have a bad feeling though that City will do whatever it takes to bring Messi to City. He is like some magical element whose value has some intrinsic ethereal worth but in reality he will age like everyone else. We really should not accede to whatever Barcelona want to make this happen. I believe that Barcelona have not yet agreed to sell him but I believe they will be morally obliged to do so and City will do almost whatever it takes to make it happen, and we will really should not. Everything, even Messi has a value.

Sentiment is ruling everything at the moment. Messi represents all that is best about football. He is the very distillation of it but he is also a player nearing the end of his career and when it comes to negotiations, as it surely will, we should remember that and we should not do things that will damage the long term interests of Manchester City. Bernardo Silva had a poor season. I think we all know why but he is of such high quality that it is out of the question that we sell him, likewise Jesus. These players have huge potential which they have yet to realise.
 
Welcome to Manchester, another fine start to an August Bank Holiday weekend and it's pissing down. Best get it over with at the beginning so he's under no illusions
 
Absolutely no way he's staying in Barcelona. Definitely coming to City. This is so different than the other times. To top it all he would've denied it by now but he hasn't. The president wants absolute control and isn't getting while Messi is around so he's leaving. The media power play easily shows that the president controls most of the tabloids and news agencies in the city. Anyways Messi wants a winning project and City is the one for him because at Barcelona there's no sign it's showing that at all for him. He's absolutely coming that I'm sure of.
 
Have to say the none City supporters are out in full coming up with ingenious post to why Messi won’t come shouldn’t come. Keep it up and keep crying you jealous fcukers.

I believe it will happen too. Messi is the heart of Barcelona. He has to be given the freedom to do what he wants however this feels like it has a momentum and life of its own. Guardiola, Birgiristain, Soriano may feel obliged to their friend, and I think they will do whatever it takes.

Signing Messi will be a dream however I also believe at the same time that the capacity of the player is declining and people have to accept that. Sure their football club has made a lot of footballing mistakes but possibly because the whole team revolves around him as a player and hence other signings can not fully be integrated into the team? Messi has become larger than life but this cannot be so. At 25-30 anything with a player like this is possible. You make him your crown jewel but what happens now?

I think we may over-commit in signing him. However, whilst I think that Messi's talents are limited, imagine the impact on players and the team around him. They will and should feel completely compelled to do everything they can to win for him and deliver him titles. I started out as an arch-cynic of this deal but I think that this could get out of control and in achieving a dream we may do some damage? We have to be careful and be prepared to draw lines which we do not go past. Of course I haven't a clue what is going on
 
The media are setting us up to fail! Hate to say it but I don't think Messi would be coming here and when that happens the media would be bombarded with "City snubbed" articles. The club should control the narrative, right now these daily articles and tweets of "city and messi in advanced talks" just seems too deliberate. This all seems like the case of a disgruntled wife (messi) flirting with an old high school sweetheart (pep) just to get her husband's attention

BBC? Given the sheer scale of this transfer. It would be the biggest thing to ever happen in football their lack of coverage is truly amazing. None of their football writers want to contemplate City and Messi.
