Chelsea thread 2020/21

Ziyech, Werner, Chilwell and potentially silva is a really good window but still need another 3/4 top class signings before even looking at competing at the top, not least a new keeper.

I hope lampard is given time and expectations aren’t too high after he’s spent some money, they overachieved last season and it was sorely needed. Got a lot of time for Lampard.

How come they can spend so much money and according to the Mail, Abromovic (not sure of the spelling) can afford to spend even more.

They had a transfer ban, and none of the money they received for Hazard has been spent yet.

I can see them doing well this upcoming season. The kids Frank introduced seem to be integrating into the squad nicely, and Frank has had another year of learning the management job.

Thiago Silva signed on a 1 year deal with an option for another year.

Smart business from Chelsea, gives them some much needed leadership at the back.

They had a transfer ban last summer + FFP is relaxed this year + They make a weirdly good amount of money on player sales.
Plus Abramovich lends it to them on an interest free basis, to be repaid more or less on demand if he leaves. Any new owner, therefore, would be looking at paying off debts of 1.4bn for a start. Ffp allows this level of borrowing, it will all end in tears.

Frank has to deliver now or he is out on his arse.
Indeed. Quite the job managing Chelsea at present: create a winning team through the integration of highly talented and expensive professionals with little or no experience of playing in English football. I have a feeling he will struggle to achieve this and a parting of ways will happen around Christmas.

Isn't that what's been expected of every other manager you've had since Abramovic? You think he'll suddenly be happy with 3rd or 4th with your outlay this summer?

Context matters. We're improving from a position of weakness. We have to challenge, that's the mandate I think.

But you're saying it's embarrassing if Chelsea don't win the league, while City are rumoured to add K2 and Messi to a team that already finished 15 and 22 points ahead of Chelsea in the last 2 seasons?

Some really good business for Chelsea. Signing Thiago Silva for year is a good move too. They should be a threat this year.

It will be really interesting to see how Chelsea's new players do.

@Vialli98 do you think that the younger players will still feature as much? (or alternately which existing players will lose minutes to the new arrivals?)

I think from the start Mount will feature heavily. James will likely start the season at the very least while Azpi fills in at LB, until Chilwell recovers from his injury. Christensen and Zouma will likely compete for the starting spot next to Silva.

Abraham had already lost his place in the team to Giroud and CHO wasn't a startet anyway, so for them it'll be about working hard and taking the chances that come their way. There will a lot of games in what will likely be a condensed season so lots of rest and probable injury issues.

I feel good about the overall squad now. We just need to find a keeper now.
