One thing that is making me uneasy is the view of many Barca fans online. Many seem to think that Bartomeu is an idiot who will fuck things up by being greedy. Most seem resigned to Messi going with many feeling it would be best for all sides and would take either a player or a reasonable amount from City to start a rebuild but have no faith in Bartomeu doing this because of his ego. Barca fans believe he just doesn't want to be the one who let Messi go and since he is going soon he thinks this makes him look strong. If we are dealing with an ego like that then there may be no sensible way to resolve this.
Fans getting wound up on a football forum?

Never. Not having it.

So the timeline -

2017 - Messi and Barcelona sign a contract which lets him leave if he lets the club know within roughly 2 weeks of the end of the season (exact date not known, possibly 10th June).

2019 - Bartomeu publicly acknowledges the clause, but says "It's the same case as with the final contracts that Xavi, (Carles) Puyol and (Andres) Iniesta had. They are players who deserve that liberty, and we shouldn't worry, as they are very committed to Barca."

2020 - March Coronavirus hits and delays the season for the first time since WW2.

2020 - April FIFA issue a directive saying that any clauses applying to the end of the season should be postponed.

It is acknowledged that, as a general rule, employment agreements shall be governed by national law and the contractual autonomy of the parties. Having said this, and consistent with article 18 paragraph 2 of the RSTP, it is proposed that:
(i) Where an agreement is due to expire at the original end date of a season, such expiry be extended until the new end date of the season.
2020 - August Messi says he wants to activate his clause 3 days after the Champions League final ends the season.

2020 - August Barcelona and Bartomeu say they are not honouring the clause, claiming that it ran out during the COVID19 break (when Barcelona had 13 games left to play in their season)

Bartomeu is in shambles. Yesterday he wanted the press to know he will resign if Messi says he's the problem, now that he's seen the possibility of Messi really leaving he is acting tough. What a pathetic man

On another note find it really bizarre Barcelona have a large English speaking forum. Why would you support a team when you don’t even live in the country? Baffling to me.

Because Messi plays for them.

I have never seen a City team be poor because of Jesus.

I've seen him not be at his best, within a team, same as Aguero.

Aguero is a better scorer, Jesus is a better everything else imo.

Actually this is not at all true. Everyone like Gabbie because he works his sock off, no doubt.
Aguero has better ball control, movement, first touch, hold up play and most importantly decision making. There are some things which make footballers elite and how many here would say Jesus is elite.

But it's not a good idea selling him without getting a proper striker as I don't see pep playing both Kun and Messi in the starting 11.

That's an excellent post mate. If all that stands up, then surely it's cut and dry?

god knows, I'm not brave enough to venture down there these days

Its a sad indictment and ive little doubt, fact that a few posters in there right now dont even have the first fucking clue we are about to sign Messi in fact, if told they would claim Messi is what brexit is.

Might be a grain of truth in that. By turning up for training it might be perceived he’s acting as still under contract.

Might also explain the video to put his side across rather than it look like he’s seen his arse
Took it as a direct response to the news that Barcelona will not sell under any circumstance

Don't agree, apart from the last bit.
