We're assuming what was leaked on the details of the contract were accurate, much less its interpretation. The consensus now appears to be ironclad, to the opposite.

Perhaps tomorrow it will swing back the other way but for now, the narrative has absolutely made a u-turn as predicted earlier
I think we are all guessing and suspect whatever the contract situation a deal will be done as he clearly wants out.

so you’d think your own legal team would have the clause & his contract t nailed right? They’d surely not advise this course of action if it was wrong or wouldn’t stand up if challenged.

One would think but for as long as I have watched this collective board for the 10 years of their mandate, no exec has ever distinguished themselves with any noteworthy competence. It hasn't just been badly run but exceedingly so.

So it would not surprise me

Interesting legality here. FiFA bent the rules to extend the 30th of June deadline to the end of the season for rolling on of player contracts. Yet Barca want to have the 30th June deadline written in stone.

It depends on the wording of the contract. If it says "June" he's screwed.

Interesting perspective from a mate is that Barca board just can't be seen to do a deal on Messi. The only politically correct option for them is to threaten legal action and hope it scares off anyone so that they don't look like they are the people who let Messi go.

As a club why would you want a player on your books that wants out, costs a fortune in wages and can walk for free next season ? Surely you would want to at least get something for him now whilst you still have a chance ?

If Messi releases a video stating he wants to leave and pleads for the good of his career to let him go I don’t see how Barca could stop him regardless of what the contract says Imo. The fans of Barca I think would be really angry if messi didn’t leave in that situation (crazy)

but i would walk 500 miles
and i would walk 500 more
just to be that man who's bringing lionel messi to our door

Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da)

Laporte, De Bruyne, Mendy, Sterling, etc, etc...
Lol yes, but getting very Kaka esc in the way its going, we are normally pretty good at keeping things quiet with transfers/prospective transfers. I hope so much it happens though, would be amazing - getting all excited again!

Well, to be fair, *we* have kept things pretty quiet on this potential transfer.

If it said “June” we wouldn’t even have reached anywhere near this point surely??

I smell CAS needing to be involved.
It would seem that Spanish law places great emphasis on what's actually written, rather than what's intended. So if the contract says he can give notice by the 30th June, then a Spanish court will probably uphold that. However, if it goes to a Swiss jurisdiction like CAS, it's entirely possible they'll ignore the actual wording and agree that the intent was "the end of the season", which was probably the end of this month under the current scenario.
