If Messi doesn't go to the PCR tests tomorrow because in his eyes, he's no longer a Barcelona player after terminating his contract, I think we are running full steam towards a court case, and hopefully that won't take too long.

nah it’s brinksmanship. I negotiate multi million deals all the time (admittedly not in football) and these are fairly common ‘positioning’ tactics

But Messi doesn't need any brinkmanship.

He's consulted UEFA, FIFA and the law firm who wrote the contract, and they all told him he could cancel his contract, so he did.

its started.

Did you read it? I think it’s a pretty good article.

Statement: City’s problem is defence: TRUE

Statement: City’s weakness is without the ball: TRUE

Messi is not known for running his ass off in games anymore and press the opposition, so no matter how excellent he is at attack, our pressing would get worse with him on the field, something a side like Liverpool could take advantage off. On the positive side, Messi with his insane skills will probably unlock most teams we’ll face.

If he in fact join us, it’ll be VERY interesting to see how Guardiola would handle Messi when realizing we’re lacking press up front. Can we expect him to run his legs off until he’s 35?

Messi is a wonderful footballer, but not all of his attributes will be beneficial.

And if he's on the pitch at the same time as Aguero, the rest of the team have got a hell of a lot of running to do out of possession. Nice problem to have, though.

It also ignores the fact that we have just bought one defender (Ake) and are certainly in the market for another (koulibaly or plan B)

What about Jorge Messi is he still stuck in Argentina?

He was supposed to arrive in Barcelona tomorrow.

He will walk into Barca headquarter like this:

Right - So they always say the best form of defence is attack right?

As things stand, with the most bang average defence we've had for the past few seasons, people already have to double mark De Bruyne

What's it going to be like when they have to afford the same treatment to Messi?

Going to be like when we had Nasri - Silva - Yaya all in the same side, you can stop one of them, but not all of them

I don't care how much we all suffer from cityitus, it's madness how some people on here can turn getting the best player of a generation into a negative

Are people just looking for reasons to complain?

Stop worrying about getting a defender,it will be sorted
Messi will be rejuvinated by his move and freedom ,he will have runners all over the place

not him, them.

it’s difficult to know the truth of the discussions but I would think that Messi has the upper hand since I read only weakness coming out of Barca......things such as Barto only willing to meet to discuss contract extension says much about the strength (or lack of it) of their position. Then constant references to the €700M release....it’s unrealistic...we all know it is. Barca need to move the narrative on...

Other aspect is reputation/legacy.....Barca need to come out of this with minimal reputational damage, Messi has won that PR war and has a good narrative around how he tried to compromise .... that’s why we all keep hearing about his willingness to meet the board, wants a ‘good exit’.....Barto now looking uncompromising/unreasonable

Barto has been badly advised (If at all) and now has himself and board in a weaker position imo....we’ll see what happens but my guess is a deal gets done above Barto that saves Barca reputation and acknowledges the services of a club legend.....the right way
