I am putting them in one thread not to have too many on the same topic which is the slow resurgance of openly facist iconography and language

The British Union of Facist were banned i n1940 and were thankfully forgotten, but unfortunately it seems that they were not gone as for the first time since 1939 a BUF flag was unfurled in trafalgar square and more and more stuff like below (appologise if anyone finds it distastefull as I do) are appearing on social media20200830_113103.jpg

When The BUF took to the streets last the good people of this nation united to chase them off and mock their facist shit, we can only hope we do the same now and don't let this become an acceptable norm.

And then you have the banned Britains First wading into hotels harrassing people much lime the facist groups did in the past, thankfully they have been arested and questioned for their actions.

But again it seems to have become less shocking and normalized that these lot are acting like this and gai ing support.

What a sad state of affairs this is in my opinion.

Strange as my social media is full of this man.....

I like to think we are still a decent enough country and society to reject this sort of shit long before it gets anywhere beyond an extreme weirdo minority cult. I do wonder if some of the more banal arguments about statues, morris dancers and the proms are an unhelpful distraction from the real evil.

Straw men created by the far right to garner anger and division imo.

Bastards First should be classed as a terrorist organisation for their little hotel stunt which was akin to Nazis hunting Jews.

The whole anti vrus cranks that were in TS yesterday no matter their political thinking are ccunts.

But what I was highlighting was the first appearance of the BUF flag openly since the 30s and how it seems to also be appearing on social media.

I'm not concerned by logos like that because as far as I can see, that is something that's supported by an absolute fraction of the population. Prior to this thread, I honestly can't remember the last time or if I've ever seen that logo.

What's more concerning and more dangerous are the fascists in anti-fascist clothing that are becoming very mainstream in society. We're now seeing people regularly sacked on the basis of their political opinions, we're seeing stronger and stronger laws against free-speech (defended by some on here), and a level of cultural cleansing that you'd normally associate with Mao and Stalin. That's a much, much bigger concern for me and the reaction of voting in ever more extreme Governnents to rally against that fascism is a case of fighting fire with fire.

Nobody will get into power by saying 'we are the fascist alliance', they are a lot more cunning than that and that's what people need to be aware of.

Its certainly a worry that perhaps well intentioned actions by 'liberals' create a pretext for an equal and opposite reaction from the far right. I'm sure the people toppling statues and banning songs, and the people wrapping themselves in the union jack to protect the statues and songs will blame each other, but I see them as two extreme cheeks of the same arse.

There's the middle ground that decent people take, however we are living in a time where you are either with one side or against it. If you're against it you're part of the problem so it seems.

It's time we shut both sides out.

I think most people do, it's just social media like Twitter giving them a voice and trying to turn every debate into an orgy of hate.

They seem to be converging under one umbrella, fascists, far left, David Icke, flat earthers, anti-vaxers, Toby Young, the Spike mob, 5G, Covid deniers, etc.

To be honest when it comes to this lot I’m rooting for the virus.

You can add QAnon into the mix as well. It's starting to infiltrate in Europe; their 'disciples' have been amongst various protests in London, Manchester, Liverpool and other cities around the UK.

Their slogan 'where we go one, we go all' abbreviated to WWG1WGA is frequently seen daubed on placards. The BBC did a piece on it a week or so ago and whilst most people dismiss them as a bunch of crackpots, their support is growing, which is dangerous.

A couple of months back I saw an interview on CNN with Professor Tom Nichols (author of The Death of Expertise) who made a valid point about how these groups gain a foothold.

He explained that before the internet and the explosion of personal media, most towns in America would have someone who believed the 1969 moon landing was fake. Most people found this amusing and didn't take it too seriously. Before the internet, they were a lone voice and therefore seen as harmless; no-one took them seriously.

However, if these people were to band together with people of similar views from other towns, then you then have a movement. Social media facilitates this.

There was a tweet posted in one of the topics recently (probably the Trump one) about protests against the lockdowns in Germany. It was raising concerns about the potential re-emergence of fascism and the far right. There were QAnon placards visible in the pictures.

Shayan Sadarizadeh was the reporter for the BBC and he carries out fact checking for their news reports. He mentioned that when he attended one of the rallies, he received some questioning looks because he was wearing a mask.

In the US they are supporters of Trump and spreading their extreme right wing beliefs far and wide.

They are a cult and we dismiss them as harmless at our peril.

It took clubs and bricks to get rid of fascists on UK streets last time.
It will probably be needed again.

The bottom linked tweet is one of many where the symbolism of the BUF is being used.

People may dismiss it as fringe or small, but to openly share and use that symbol dissapeared for decades and some kind of semi acceptance that it is back and shrugging it off is dangerous imho.

It has 88 likes and 18 people talking about it mate.

In a country of nearly 70 Million i'm going to say he is a fucking wanker with a few wanker friends and to suggest there is some sort of semi acceptance or that it is back is ridiculous.

Im almost certain accounts like this are also being monitored by anti terrorist police and these crackpots are being rightly arrested as well.

Yeah but his 1700 follower have other followers and so on, also many are linked to other such opinions around europe and the globe.

The main point I am making is the flag reapearing with after 70 years and along with more and more the identitarians inverteed black V apearing on more marches against many populist causes as well as fringe shite like the anto lockdown clowns.

The rise of any extreme ideolody seeping into the mainstream as acceptable is easy and should not be dismissed as a few cranks, because we do at our own risk.

Report the cunts is my best advice. Im not on twitter, its shite, it has crackpots like this on there so its a big fat no from me but if i was and saw any sort of extreme political views id report to both twitter and the police.

I agree the rise of extreme ideology seeping into the mainstream is serious but im going to guess we will disagree that its an issue from the extremes of both the left and right.

The vast majority of us have no time for either and wished they would just fuck off.

It wasn't. I too have never seen that logo, ever and but for this thread i doubt i would have done.

Report it, don't give them the air and platform they crave by retweeting the shite imo.

None of us can be happy with the homeless situation in Manchester and other cities. I watched the programme Manctopia a couple of days ago and it highlighted the plight of people trying to get a house and the frustrating points bidding system they have to use to do so. It also highlighted the fantastic work done by the lady who provides a soup kitchen to homeless people and who lost her place in the city. We've all seen despate homeless people in thd City centre. The question I have is, is it wrong for our society and government to ignore peoples housing problems in Manchester and other cities and not provide suitable housing and funds for shelters and soup kitchens while at the same time putting up hundreds of migrants in posh hotels across the country at huge cost. Both sets of people are homeless yet we are prioritising one over the other?

There are of course reasons for this and it's not a conscious decision to disadvantage the native poor. However, what a great recruitment opportunity for the BUF - if they step into the void with a hot bowl of soup and a dry place to sleep they can prey upon the victims of this unfairness. It all comes back to the old Tony Benn thing - if we have the money to bomb people, we have the money to help people.
