It's TV fishing presented to appeal to the masses mate. Jeremy Wade is an excellent Angela and well travelled but I've heard of severl anglers in the know Wade isn't always over his rods to strike a fish. Most probably edited to look good.

im sure he makes a lovely lady at weekends ,but can he fish :)

It is an incredible fish and you can see how chuffed bmr is - I bet it was hard work pulling it against the flow of that river. The serious question we have to consider is after a few pints which one of them would you rather kiss?
I'd be worried if you wanted to kiss me mate. Fish mat lifting is better than lifting shirts, so I'm told;)

Just thought I would join in with some of the posters on here with pics of themselves with pb fish. For this one I was fishing very light, with no tackle.....or clothes, using myself as a pop up bait on the bottom(about 300 yards out in approx 80ft of water) it put up a bit of a fight(not like them barbel or nuisance salmon). I apologise for my condition as I had let myself go a bit, but I can assure you that I am fighting fit again now. Oh, and as you can tell, it was very cold on blackpool beach mid january time.

Poor handling. Where’s your unhooking mat?

Haha, good pic.

Pity you didn't have that during our inflatables craze, would have been impressive at WBA on a cold Wednesday night.

All the fishing programmes are edited.....not on rods/fish multiple swims at same time/edit in previous footage....often from different lakes!
Best example of latter is Yates//Brown 'secret lake' ....the fish caught at end is from a lake many miles from where they were lol

Good job they're edited then. Wouldn't really want to see an hairy arsed carper having a dump in a boilie bucket whilst I'm sat watching eating my tea.

Do what makes you happy mate. Anglers have different temperaments suited to different styles. I'm a sedentary angler and like bringing the fish to me through feeding or not, as the case may be.

I sometimes think Fishermen over-complicate things. The rolling meat method Dave described is so simple yet was the most killing method on the Wye in June outfishing all the feeder, method, bolt, hair and other rigs we threw at them .

On my local water I sometimes watch the locals fishing ten metre poles whilst I'm outfishing them using a tiny float at my rod tip. But I know there are times when they catch more but I simply can't be arsed messing about with a 30ft length of carbon pole. I reckon a lot depends on your personality
I missed replying to you at the time, sorry pal. I get and agree what you're saying. I sometimes don't try too hard to catch fish myself. That's why I gave up match fishing years ago. Fishing to me, especially nowadays is more about chilling out and catching fish are a bonus. But from what I read into @peace frog posts is his mate introduced him to fish commercial style waters and fairly limited by just fishing excavated holes in the ground stuffed with fish. If you want to try long range fishing for bream and big roach, or trotting a float down a river then let me know PF, I know lots of good easy-ish venues.

This thread to me is partly about trying to help fellow anglers and those interested in taking up fishing, hence my BM Angling Meet up thread. Didn't take off with covid restrictions etc but would be good to maybe try and sort one next year.

It's definitely not about dick measuring mine's bigger than yours pics either, and I know DD will agree with me on this. Big fish and PB's(personal best fish) can take many years of time, money, frustrations, and sheer dedication to achieve ones goal. I totally get DD feeling as though he cannot better his PB so quit the carp scene. Fantastic looking carp so well done I say.

Fishing is for everyone who's interested and the banks of waters haven't been as busy for years. Many newbies will probably jack it in after a few frustrating and unsuccessful visits to a water if they are not being helped by anglers experienced enough to show them the basics.

Another good thing about this thread is there's no arguing and falling out. Like I say, anyone got any questions about anything whether an angler or wanting to take up angling, I and others will gladly offer advice. Help and advice is here so don't feel as though you can't ask.

Tight lines blues.

You mean "monster Myths" in A Passion For Angling. It's true that the last carp caught, "Fat Lady", was caught in a different lake and edited in. It happens in all angling programmes. I noticed a clumsy edit during the first episode of Mortimer and Whitehouse a coupel of weeks ago. The first salmon caught wasn't right. At a guess, the camera crew weren't ready so he kept it in the net and released it hooked, something like that. Nearly every clip of the bite alarm or float going under in most series are edited in too. Creative license, they call it.

Theres' whole rake of stories about dumping when fishing. I once crouched down on a bucket behind a bush near my swim, looked up and a guy had a clear view of me from about 15 yards away on the opposite bank. I've been caught with the shits whilst out barbel fishing too. Not pleasant.

My mate was salmon fishing and after squatting to relievd himself behind a bush, found out that he'd managed to take a dump in his chest waders.

Worst one I ever did was years ago on the Dane. I got the sudden need from near bowel explosion. Whipped mi keks off pronto and splattered the ground. After I found a dock leaf to while may arse I pulled my pants up and realised I'd splatted mi boxers. Had to take them off. Fortunately nobody saw my embarrassment.

Right, I had a good morning at work so have given myself the afternoon off to go fishing. Dont have much choice about where cos of lack of permits, so its my river swim. Did well there last week but going with a different approach today, namely he float, despite it being about 8ft deep a few feet out. so watch out for some pics later.....if I do any good. I wont be too proud to admit a blank if it happens either, as its all part of the journey, and anyway, its a lovely place to spend a few hours.

This thread must be unique in that everyone on it gets on without a single bad word or argument or insult.

I was tempted to say that the carp In the photo you posted yesterday was far better looking than the guy holding it. But of course the rules of this thread must be upheld, so resisted. ;-)
