I mean, Burnley want 40m plus for James Tarkowski. I think that tells us all we need to know.

Paying 60-70m for Kounde or Koulibaly isn't overspending at all. They are quality, quality players that would significantly improve our first 11.

They don't need to sell, they don't want to sell, so the only way you have a chance is to pay the release clause, and I presume the player has already been sounded out that he wants to come.

Yeah nothing better than getting a bargain,but sometimes and this year it is more so essential to just pay the money and get the deal done or risk the chance of another team coming in paying the full asking price and grabbing the target before us..
 
I think City have unrealistic valuations. Its like Real trying to sign Laporte for €60m. Wed tell them to fuck off just like others are doing to us

We had Kompany to carry us over the line. Had Kompany not played most of our games towards the run in and Stones or Otamendi played instead, we would NOT have won the league. You can go back to the season before and make a case for Stones and Otamendi playing most of our games in the 100 point season, but United were a poor team under Mourinho and were our closest challengers. This Liverpool team are a different beast altogether. They are a 90 plus point team.

This is why it is important to buy a top CB and give ourselves the best opportunity we can to wrestle back that Premier league title.

We can't go another season without replacing Kompany. Pep i am sure will be making the board fully aware of that.

People will think Ake is enough, but there aren't any guarentees with Ake even though i do like him as a player. It is a big step up for him so we will have to see if he can handle the pressure.

Another CB is key, we can't go into the new season without a mrquee CB and roll the dice once again.

I am quietly confident we will sign a CB. I think Pep might intervene very soon if it drags out any longer anyway.
 
Getting caught in lightning quick counter attacks and clinicality have been our 2 main weaknesses last season. Koundé solves 1 of them hopefully. Messi on a free and a proper clinical striker will solve the other.
 
People keep forgetting our PPG with Laporte last season was PL title worthy. Of course we struggled without him, Liverpool wouldn’t have gained 96 points missing VVD for 3/4 of their games either.

I fully expect us to buy another centre back but I’m not sure why people keep comparing our team now with last season’s side without Laporte and thinking they’re the same.

I would like to think by the end of the window we will have brought in a quality cb like Koulibaly or Kounde. If we don't and go with what we have then I can't see us mounting a serious title challenge.

Who is your other central defender beyond laporte? we don't have one. Laporte came back in January. We were still losing games in August. laporte's injury compounded a pre-existing problem - the retirement of Kompany which we have yet to deal with.
 
Yeah I agree. Not every game though. Ake will offer us a much more solid option. He would have played against Lyon for example when Pep was worried about their width. If we expect to have the bulk of possession then Mendy and Cancelo will Likely be used. When we expect a much harder game then Ake and Walker play, as long as our CB’s are fit and available.

(assuming - to answer your question - we don’t buy a centre back although I’m 100% that we will)

Any of those that partnered him in the games he played last season.

Of course we lost games in August, all teams lose games and have in every season other than one.

The issue last season was not missing Kompany. It was missing Laporte and our main opponents would also miss their best defender.
 
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already. The kids reading of the game from the clips I have seen is of the fernandhino ilk.
Perhaps Pep sees him as a defensive midfielder.
In which case we could be after both he and KK
