Bournemouth (H) - CC 3rd Round Post-match Thread

Sums up our last three transfer windows for me, he was the only one signed 2018 I think 60m, last season was Rodri, Cancelo and Angelino jury out on that one, and this one has a chance of being good still, but underwhelming at present. None of Mahrez, Rodri, Cancelo have proved their transfer fees yet, Rodri should do.
Rodri is an absolute beast of a Player.

Foden the best player on the pitch by the biggest margin imaginable for me. What a player.
I agree, was absolutely the best player by a noticeable distance tonight, his footwork was great to watch as always. I think he’s really developed training with Dave and Kev for the past few years.

if he played for some other team, would Pep be in for him? Fills a gap in our squad for me, very physical but plenty of skill to go with it.
But he's not a full back! Mind you Pep does like to buy lots of full backs who don't seem to be full backs when they pull on a City shirt.

How was Mendy atrocious?
He didn't complete a single cross or beat his opposing fullback once. The three times he got into promising positions he skied one over the bar, and smashed two across the face of goal. Virtually everytime he got the ball he slowed it down and played it back five yards. He had a lot of possession and did nothing with it. He is just not the same player after his injuries. There's no time for sentiment in football.

Mendy what?
Another load of bollocks if you thought he was poor.
Apologies if you’re not saying that.

I've just tracked back and figured out who the whipping boy is!
Mendy started poorly but improved as the game went on.

Maybe Moss was trying even things up , Delap was knocking all their defence about , he doesnt settle for second best a great trait in a player.
His hunger tonight was great to watch. He’s a beast of a lad. Great finish, and they struggled with him all night, he maybe didn’t see as much of the ball as he’d have liked but he occupied there back line and bested them with his physicality. Looking forward to seeing him get some more minutes. I like the way he offers us something different up top also. He really relished the physical battle.
I thought he was lucky that Moss was letting everything go tonight, another ref might’ve shown him 2 yellows. But what a debut

That Delap lad looks a handful, but can he take a throw in like his dad? could be a useful asset, Stoke got half their goals from it under Pulis.

What has sentiment got to do with anything?
He was neat and tidy and covered his side very well. The game was played at a snails pace in the main so galloping forward wouldn’t have been beneficial.
Easy target but not having him getting grief for tonight.

Delap already gives us an extra dimension if we have the sense to play to it. He could be the extra weapon to win us games from the bench.

Doyle is close to being able to do a job, albeit is very restrained these days compared to the ability he used to show.

Foden is rapidly turning into a star. He will very soon be able to play centre mid. Torres has a lot more to show.

The other kids tonight were & are nowhere near it at present imo, but I've a feeling Braaf might be.

the lad is a great prospect but way to early for first team football, yes city need another striker and pep knows what he is working with, but like foden delap will be put back in the box and looked after. it may be easy to blood youth in the league cup this season because we have a great record in the past 5 years, so if we do lose and get knockout the past winnings will help with blooding the youth without the pressure of losing

like i said he's got that rooney style upper body strength for his age and the lads has some power and skill
so i hope he proves me wrong and wins a first team place and he shines

Football is a game of opinions.

How many times did Steffan pick Mendy out on the wing perfectly? Some of his distribution was brilliant. Obviously not Ederson quality but definitely talented with his feet.

Foden is becoming very consistent now which is what he needed. He’s let his performance dip in these games over the last 2 years. What a special player he is!

Doyle superb. He can replace Gundo next season please. Delap looks special too. One thing Delap will need to improve is his general pressing game but that will come with being coached by pep and watching Jesus.

Stones is far better than Garcia. How Barca can possibly think he’s at the required level to take them forward is beyond me. He reads the game very well, especially for his age, but without pace, height or strength how the hell is he going to cope against the best forwards in Europe. Surely they’re on the wind up.
