Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

Reminds me of Dzeko. He seems to have a 'dont give a fuck', 'show no respect' attitude which I like! Hope the kid gets plenty of opportunities this season. Also, some finish from him

A faster, rougher, tougher, younger version of Edin Dzeko. A battering ram to break down packed defences plus no little skill. He certainly can play a bit. Not many like him around. We should be excited by his potential.

This is not true. They pay less than us.

It was someone on here that told me that. I want to say Tolmie but I could be wrong. It seems to make sense that they would get paid more playing for Dortmund first team than our academy. Sancho earns £190K a week at Dortmund I don’t think we were offering that.

Yep, Sancho would have been the most well paid 17 year old in the game if he accepted our offer. If anything he took a pay cut to go to Dortmund.

Nah, Haaland is lightning when he gets a gallop going. Don’t think Delap will be as quick as him, not even close.
Maybe not, but Delap is quicker than most realise. We've just not seen him really stretch his legs yet. He will be faster than most centre-backs, guaranteed.

Haaland is quick over long distances because he's 6'4'' and just has great stride length.

Delap reminds me more of young Ibrahimovic where you just assume a lump that big isn't going to move as fast as he does, but he's probably not out and out quick, I think we'll need to see a few big counter attacks with KDB and Sterling before we can judge it.

He's 17 though. He's likely going to get quicker, he probably hasn't even finished growing or working with a speed coach - Foden only started last season, when he'd been in the first team for 2 years.

Very good debut rounded off with an excellent finish (with his weak foot). Imo Jesus would not have finished that chance and possibly not even aguero. Hope to see more of him this season

Cheers Steven. Just wondering mate, from what you’ve seen of him, how good is he in the air? Can he bury some crosses for us or is that not his strength?

I've seen him score headers, but the academy sides aren't really one for whipping in crosses so I honestly can't tell you how good he is at that.

Be interesting to see if he’s trusted to start against Leicester if it’s true about Jesus.
I’d be surprised if he is, more likely to see Sterling there but be nice to see him get some minutes.

As an aside, fuck me our forwards are made of glass aren’t they! What the fuck has Jesus done now?

Its getting near Christmas so he's probably preparing for that.

I think he is out and out quick tbh. Well I guess it depends on what that definition means, but if I was listing his attributes pace would be one of them. And he will certainly get sharper too. Look at how many times last night he gave a CB a two yard headstart and still got there. He doesn't play on the shoulder of the defender because he doesn't need to. 1.23 is a great example. Easily beats the CB for pace.

I think there were plenty of examples last night where he was either level or even behind the defender but still got to the ball first. That bodes well and is preferable to being super quick once he's got up to speed as most teams we meet sit deep.
