The "modern" game is now about getting more penalties than your opponents.
Players are playing for them and refs think they've done their jobs by obliging and giving them.
Theres been 7 penalties in 7 prem games this weekend, says it all.

Where to start ?
Mendy and Garcia should never start for this club again.
Rodri is now becoming a huge concern.
Pep should be getting more from the players.
Khaldoon/Txiki have failed Pep in the fact they have been negligent in ignoring our dire need for a LB, CM and forward.
Shambles. Battle for top 4 is on. Liverpool may win this league by more than 20 points this season.

That was a game of 2 halves and 3 penalties.
The club needs to make hard decisions.pep needs to decide if he wants to stay & the players need to commit to him & his tactics.no closing down & doing the hard work & the dirty work is what we were good at.sadly we haven’t had that for a few seasons
it’s all about the first 30 mins for me - take the lead, on top and opposition look like they worried about us. But as time goes on and we don’t get the 2nd they always grow in confidence and once they attack that back line of ours their belief rises and then it’s game on.

I’m not saying the defence is faultless, there’s very obvious problems there but performances and results like that All stems from the midfield.
we give players all the time in the world to play what is a fairly simple pass, of course they’re going to punish you. We got 100 points with stones and Otamendi playing the majority of the season and we did so because we had a mobile Fernandinho protecting us, now we have a vastly less mobile 35 year old Fernandinho and iron boots Rodri.
it’s no coincidence whatsoever that we always seem to concede from just one or two chances, it’s because we’ve allowed the opposition to have those chances uncontested. Our midfield is simply not mobile enough and it’s the biggest problem we’ve got above any other position in the squad.
Really doesn’t matter who we have in the back 4 when they’ve got Rodri exposing them so brutally. I don’t even blame Rodri himself, we should have seen how immobile he was and avoided him like the plague when we scouted him, he can’t magically get quicker we will always have this vulnerability whilst he’s the anchor in this side.

Nothing has changed, Wolves, United, Spurs, Arsenal , Norwich, Southampton, Lyon and now Leicester, we are in serious decline.
What is going on, we won that CAS case and we should have blown everyone out of the water with quality signings.
Ake and Torres not the quality the club need, we need to rebuild the spine with world class players.

We conceded 4 goals when Fernandinho went off. He wasn’t great but that sub was absolutely ridiculous.

Not good obviously. Not sure if the players just aren't fit enough but gone was the intensity we showed first half against Wolves and most of our players just strolled around.
Defence was poor (Ake excepted). Mistakes for penalties from 3 of them, none of which needed to be conceded. Not much contact but they're always going to be given against us. Walker is usually pretty reliable and hopefully Dias will give us a bit more solidity but we really need a left back unless the idea is to play Ake there and Laporte with Dias in the centre. Having said that, a high line with no pressing is rarely going to work against teams with some pace up top, so the defence were frequently left a little exposed.
Equally concerning was the fact that we created so little. Both our goals came from corners (which is unusual) but we created very little in open play, despite the lion's share of possession. Foden, Sterling, KDB, Rodri, Fernandinho all well below their usual standards and Mahrez did nothing apart from the goal.
Such a change from the first half vs Wolves. Not sure why we played with such a lack of intensity and why we decided to not bother pressing. It needs sorting out though and perhaps another player or two needs adding.

People must realise we've not had enough time to organise for this season because of th CL running late and players not being ready with no pre season. Liverpool have had a pre season from July onwards. This is one of them results that happens now and again. I reckon it could be at least a month before we get some consistency. I'm not panicking yet.

The root cause of this was starting Mahrez. We have to change our game plan / tactics to accommodate a player with a very individual style. It worked when he played for Leicester as they played the game on the break looking for him and vardy to finish We don’t play that way, we play as a team and hunt as a pack. If Mahrez has a role for us it’s impact player coming off the bench when we need something different, not the false 9 role. I wish it didn’t but my heart sinks and confidence drains whenever I see his name in the starting line up.
