Plus he knew we’d fall away second half through lack of match fitness, so there was no need to bust a gut first half.Brendan only needed to look at all of Peps games the last 3 seasons to work out how exactly how we would play and exactly how to counter it....do what most teams do, surrender possession try to win it back in MF, then break with numbers when you turn it over....

I think Pep is in a deep shit, because everything that's happening to his team goes against his tenets. His mantra is that he constantly works on improving the team and when that stops, he walks. Well, this team lost its phycological strength some time ago and there is no even hint it's getting it back and without that, no serious successful results will follow. When was the last time we not only came back from a goal down, but at least attempted to come back - I know everybody will say Real. But seriously, when? He can fix bad defending (let's say he can!), bud how does he fix reckless defending. Put any top CB from ' Transfer' section of this forum in our side today and still, how do you prevent Mahrez not tackling, or your fullbacks giving away ridiculous penalties? And how does he get some response from the players, because today he got fuck all!
KdB is my case in point, instead being cool and composed, once he started forcing the game thinking he needs to do something without actually thinking what to do, everything he did became ridiculously poor.
I am actually very fearful what might happen this season. The blame game in Bayern started with injuries and Pep looks literally alone in that dugout.

I know many have said it. But today felt like the end of of an era (as did the Lyon match). There's no point getting down. It has been coming for at least 12 months. Too many players are past their sell-by date (Fernandihno) or crocked (Mendy) or just not good enough ( Garcia). We played into Leicester's hands yet again.
In his interviews Pep looks shot to pieces. He is the greatest manager we will ever see but we know in our hearts he is not staying so we have to build for the future. Hopefully this is already happening.
I still believe this crazy Covid season is wide open and the title is anyone's to win (including City) but we need to be realistic. CTID

Unfortunately even since pep has been here football seems to have evolved or moved on it’s all about having players with pace all over the pitch,we seem pedestrian at times,but that’s only part of our problems ..
Football has evolved since last year when we became the first English club to win the domestic treble? Don't think so.
We are behind other teams in our preparation for the season and have many injuries. This goes some way in explaining why we struggled today.

Foden just isn't the same type of player and for his sake we should stop this expectation of him to be a Silva clone.
The worst thing I’ve noticed over the last half a season to be honest is that we just aren’t as clinical in attack.
When teams sat back and tried to defend deep, frustrating our attacks we usually found a way through. We certainly created chances. Today we barely had a clean-cut opportunity to score.
We aren’t fluid or unpredictable in our attack. We are so easy to stifle, which is odd given Pep is one of the best tacticians but he’s getting found out more and more.
There is just something off with us. Something isn’t clicking and that’s before you start to analyse our defensive play.
I don’t think people are grasping the rebuild we have on our hands.
Its massive and maybe we need a new manager to own it.
Not critical of Pep , but we should have committed him to another contract by now and backed him with better signings over the past 2 seasons.
Hopefully this season is where we bottom out otherwise despite our resources we will be irrelevant home and abroad.
As many have said our purchases under Pep haven't been what we need they have fallen far short in fact.
Unless you surround KDB with better quality than we now have we will go backwards fast.

We made the same mistake by not replacing Vinny and thinking we could get away with itHe's a kid and need still to be looked after, hence why it's incredible we have not strengthened midfield.
Exactly, replacing the finest player ever to wear our shirt, Foden has a lot to learn, wonderful talent, but clearly far from the finished article .Cannot understand how we can say foden is good enough to take over from our greatest ever player . Surely you that is putting massive pressure on him .

It's not all about winning and we cannot win them all. Our title winning teams are slowly being replaced by new players being signed and young players coming through. Several key players out today and a few howlers from established players against a great counter attacking team. A defeat like that isn't easy to take or accept. If Guardiola throws the towel in now I will be shocked. Just because a great manager is perceived by some as failing it doesn't make him a failure, especially a manager of the statue of Pep. We are in transition rebuilding for the future and I see results like this as one step backwards and two steps (eventually) forwards. Great managers come through a transitional period with further success like Ferguson did at the United. Time will tell whether Guardiola has the guts and desire to evolve this squad to past glories. I'm hoping he will. He already has my thanks and respect for what he has thus far achieved, and any blue worth his salt will think the same.
Pep has got to do something different and the big question is will he? Ideally the club will pull one or two more transfers out of the fire after Dias but that may be a forlorn hope. I realise that it is easier said than done making several changes to a squad like our in the close season but from the outside you wonder if the club have been too passive.
The fact that he has tried the double pivot is something but he erred by chasing the game and moving away from that.

My son called it,would rather have zinchenko than mendy who can’t defend but with zinchenko at least he’s more comfortable on the ball as he’s a midfielder first off ..We have a habit of switching play over to mendy.who takes two touches to get it under control . By the time he tries crossing he is marked so he plays it backwards it slows us right down.his lack of quality is killing us much prefer zin there and thats saying sumat!

Coz they appealed/screamed for everything like whiney 14 yr old girls and after 80 fouls not being given on our players ,we just can't be arsedAbsolutely.
But when the same ref gives three similar penalties at one end and doesn’t give a similar one at the other, it makes you wonder whether simple inconsistency is a complete explanation.
Have to reluctantly agree with this.The last thing we need now is to panic buy and buy more shite. What we need is to get rid of the blokes who are scouting and fronting these players.

Rodri is garbage , not suited at all to premier league football, my gran is quickerI am not totally convinced about Rodri. He is a good player but he is almost pogba stan where we need another midfielder along side him to get Rodri's full value. That ain't right. Ferna in his peak would scrub all dangers out in midfield and provide a quick pass to kdb or David to start the attack. Something Rodri rarely does.
I feel weird about this transfer because Rodri's ex teammate would have been the best answer to all our problems - Partey

I know you didn't it mate, but you quoted my post which was a reply to someone who did.
I agree something has to happen and it will. We have another CB coming who actually wants to play for us for a start. Mendy should never play if we have another viable left back fit. We've had some rotten luck with both Aguero and Gabby out and having to rely on a 17 year old.
Today’s result is not relevant really it’s just an addition to some awful performances last year in the league fa cup and champions league. When you get beat by much inferior sides this often something is very wrong. It stands out a mile to me. How many games last season and this can you say we performed above our collective ability?
If you have a manager who can now only beat poorer sides and often lose to them as well it’s seems silly not to question if he is doing a good job.
