Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

There may be a reason Pep doesn't stay long at a club. Three great years, play some great football, win trophies and then burnt out. He looks a bit spent at the minute and being an emotional chap it wouldn't surprise me if he walked.

To be fair to the little world class stat padder who started upfront today,whilst generally doing fuck all with the ball he was pressing very well during the first half. We certainly didn’t lose cos we had nobody to press upfront as they were quite happy to keep giving us the ball back.

We've only had 2 great years.
 
It is worrying that he looks so worn down at the start of the season but I hope he extends his contract personally. We have our bad days and he makes us scratch our heads with some decisions but I'm not ready to give up Pep football, it works most of the time and it's great to watch when it does.
 
The point people miss here is that no one who is PepOut believes he is a bad coach. He is one the greatest footballing mind of his generation but he looks like a tortured genius now. Frequent indecisions , rigidity in changing things, mentally he is not here. Add that with the loss of his mother and away from his family during Covid he doesn't look like himself.
He has been provided the best environment possible with all his spanish friends yet he somehow feels a bit dejected.
Moving on feels like a best option unless he signs another contract and the aging squad's rejuvenation starts.
Also Txiki needs to get his transfer policy in order or fuck off.
 
No amount of defenders would improve the defence, the problem is with the system and that's need changing and Pep won't. hopefully he finish this season and we part company amicably.

Its a question that will drag on all season - issue is I think Pep is judging his decision as the games go by, results and player reaction to his methods and if they are still responding in a positive way etc.

I think he looks a little burnt out but lets remember he has lost his mother in the pandemic, he has stated that it puts everything into perspective.

After the 2 huge seasons we hit a peak unseen before, that might be as good as it gets. But i dont think Pep will give an answer yet, by half way through the season i reckon he will know what he is doing...and if the players dont improve and we stutter through the season i will be leaning towards him deciding to leave. With him believing that a change is right

So to start discussing that is not a dis on Pep, he will go down as our greatest manager and what he brought.

If he leaves, who do we go for ?

Nagelsmann could be worth a punt
 
I don’t see any obvious new manager who would not feel like a downgrade on pep and our issues are mainly personnel.
 
I'd like to see him stay and see this rebuild out.

However, I don't think he wants to. I reckon he fancies a year or so out. Recharge the batteries and find another project.

I think he became visibly pissed off very early last season when VAR - game after game - contrived to fuck us over. Things going against us, things going in Liverpool's favour virtually the entire season wore him down.

I hope I am wrong as I want him to stay. But he would have to commit to 2 or 3 years on top of his existing deal, I would have thought.
 
Given that Pep will unquestionably have been front and centre when it comes to recruitment, I’d say he’s getting a pretty easy pass at the moment. Mendy and Rodri were tragic signings (the former because he simply doesn’t have a footballing brain and offers nothing defensively or offensively, and the latter because a chronic lack of pace renders him incapable of filling the role he has been assigned), who cost £110m combined. To start a 3rd season with an injury prone pudding as your only viable option at left back is piss poor, as is basing your entire game plan on pressing yet continually deploying at least 2 midfielders (perm 2 from Rodri, Ferna & Gunders), who lack the legs for it, as is having centre halves who lack pace defend up on the halfway line.
Two years ago we had a beautifully balanced squad, but by design (Sane) or Father Time (Kompany, Silva) key elements of it have not been replaced, and we have muddled along with a number of players unsuited to their roles, which contributed significantly to 11 carbon copy defeats last season against very specific opposition tactics. In short, despite being one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, we somehow still need a dominant and quick centre half, a competent left back, a mobile central midfielder, and a powerful centre forward.
As to whether Pep has either the answers or the continuing drive for the sizeable task at hand, I don’t know, but what I do know is that we’re going to find out very quickly now, cos we’re going to face the parked bus/rapid counterattack tactic with ever more tiresome frequency from here on in, because the whole world can see our susceptibility to it. Based on last season and today, personally I don’t think he has those answers
 
If Pochettino is standing by then surely it makes sense to let him have this season as a transition season rather than have a repeat of last year?
 
The worst result in the league since Pep's first season in my opinion. Pep looks disinterested and has done so for a while. A decision on his future needs to be made soon as the uncertainty must be having an impact on the dressing room.

I think Txiki needs to be replaced his recruitment of players has been dire

I believe he (Mendy) had about 5 assists in those first few games. Everything looked perfect - until that dreadful injury.
 
I fucking hope not or we will see more Legendary Quality leave our club and Pep will bring in lesser players like Rondri, we need players with a bit of magic, like Dinho has, just hasn't got his legs. Sergio is next to bow out, WTF happens next??
