Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

gutted with that yesterday, couldn't believe what I was watching. Sorry but Pep needs to take responsibility... EVERYONE knows what Vardy does and he's hurt us time and time again. He likes a high line and balls down the sides of centre-halves. So we play a high, exposed defence with a new centre-back partnership and with very little pressure on the ball in midfield, especially after Fernandinho went off. We never learn. Pep never learns. Jamie fucking Vardy... a 33-year-old chav sprinter in boots, manages to make us look like mugs every time. It was too easy to defend deep and smash us on the break once again. You can't ALWAYS win a game playing beautiful football... got to dig games out sometimes, and quite frankly I'm not sure we have it in us to do that.

There will be a few good up and coming guys who haven‘t yet hit the big time but know how to get the best out of their resources. The club will have a good idea of who they are.

yeah I think Potter has star manager all over him, but he’s still to manage big players. Many an upcoming manager has failed at that hurdle.

Agree but there must be a tier of capable managers in between. Ones who have performed creditably in Europe, for example, without necessarily having a big enough team to win it. Rather that than someone who would need endless resources and all the stars in alignment.

Pep lives or dies by his success record. We enter this season with a manager who decided Sane didn't work hard enough for the team and should be benched, who had played a DM at CB to plug a massive hole the previous season nullifying his main strengths to the team, who continues to play a want away, unproven CB (not just yesterday when we were down to the bare bones), and who let go a more than serviceable full back in Danilo who we then exchanged for Cancelo plus a hefty wad and for whom we don't seem to know which is his best position. These are all decisions difficult to fathom the wisdom of. It feels to me Pep is coming to the end of his time with us (the spark, the drive, the total commitment to excellence seems to be fading with him).

Pep needs to take some responsibility, but not all of it.

It's not Pep's fault that 3 of our 4 defenders made blatant mistakes and gave away three penalties. It's not Pep's fault that Garcia wouldn't close Maddison.

Our defence isn't anywhere near good enough. We've signed a lad from a relegated Bournemouth and after 2 games he looks undroppable. That sums up our defence.

Pep is, as you say, responsible. For me, it’s his stubbornness to change tactics against certain teams that’s costing us, more so than the players who are following his philosophy to a tee. We’ve become very predictable and counter attacking teams have broke the code so if we carry on as we are, the same results will follow. Throw in a couple of £60m+ players who aren’t all that and the problems are exacerbated.

No wonder Neville was a shit manager. He was decrying Leicester’s approach yesterday when they were one down, saying how they were showing no ambition. However, most City fans watching that could see a familiar pattern emerging. Leicester didn’t change their game plan when they went a goal down, knowing that we’d keep playing the same way and they’d get a few chances.

I’m all for backing the manager to sort this out, but he needs to change approach, especially against counter attacking sides or he’s making it difficult for himself.

Players who are no longer responding to the manager, players who don't fit the managers system.

Pep's team has to play high tempo, high line defence requires great energy and effort, we don't have players who can do that.

Where was John Stones yesterday? I hate the guy but if he was left out for Garcia he has every right to throw his toys out of the pram.
Apparently injured again stones , bit comical at this point he can’t seem to play two games in a row .
Don’t think there’s been a more injury prone player at the club , even Vinnie could string 6 or 7 games together before getting injured ,

Not sure he was injured, if he was dropped for Garcia and if true that's apaling management.

What makes you think things will improve? Just curious. No history of addressing any short comings we have.
No history of addressing problems? Are you sure? I remember his 1st season with an ageing team. Then we had our best 2 seasons back to back in our history and smashed every record in the league and were screwed 2 seasons running in champs league by terrible decisions and just plain old bad luck. Last year we had a dip in form. Mendys injuries have ruined him, not peps fault. Who is out there? Name me 2/3 world class leftbacks that are gettable. Bernado had a terrible season who saw that coming? Laporte injuries, is that peps fault. Cancelo struggling to settle is that peps fault? Stones going into his shell and getting injuries none stop, is that peps fault? Is he perfect, no. Nobody is but is this his fault, no, not at all. I'd like to know who's fault it is we didn't replace vinny last year or who dragged their feet this year. Also who decided rodri could fill fernas position coz that's a bad decision. I also believe pep had a mare versus lyon. But let's think about this,
Mancini does well we regress
Pelegrini does well we regress
Pep does well guess what? We gave regressed. Maybe it isn't the manager, maybe its the recruitment team. You can't lose vinny, sane, silva and have a 35 year old ferna, 32 y/o nico, injury ravaged mendy and not invest in midfield and defense. Whos choice is that? If its peps then fair enough, the blame is on him. But its happened with other managers previously, so its either a coincidence or ..........

Txiki is the person we should be looking at.

In the last 3 windows, we've signed Rodri, Ake, Torres and Dias.

In that time we've lost Angelino, Kompany, Silva, Sane, Otamendi, Delph, Bravo, Danilo, Roberts, Mangala, Denayer, Diaz etc. Our squad is considerably weaker than it was. That isn't good enough.

John Stones misses his second Manchester Citygame of the week after not being deemed fit enough for the matchday squad against Leicester City.

The English defender started alongside Nathan Ake on Monday night against Wolves as Pep Guardiola's side got their season off to an excellent start with a 3-1 win at Molineux.

Reports yesterday were saying it was due to not being fit, I’m sure after starting against wolves and missing Bournemouth game he would have at least been in the squad yesterday if he was fit .

Not if he was angry at being dropped for Garcia.

Whatever John is a liability and has been for a long, long time.

Time for him to have a new start and get his career back

Football at the highest level right now is about high, intense pressure, and then attacking quickly and decisively when you win it, whether that’s from forcing the error high up the pitch, or through counter attacking from deep. It’s about pace, intensity, pressure, dynamism, mobility.

We only have about 3 players in the squad that seem to enjoy the pressing side of the game (Foden, Jesus, KDB) so if fit, these 3 should be the first names on the team sheet, I don’t care what anyone says. When we don’t have all 3, we are relying solely on KDB to produce magic.

Our counter attacking is absolutely woeful, in almost every aspect. The pass selection, the execution, having the intelligent runs. We just seem clueless at it and consistently fuck up 3v2’s, 4v3’s etc.

Too often we get the ball back and it gets slowly passed side to side until eventually getting to the feet of Ederson and we start from there.

Pep needs to understand that possession stats don’t directly win games. We need more than that. If he can’t get that out of the players then he should leave. And before the end of the season if that is the case, since there’d be no point to anything.

He needs to be asked if he has the stomach for the rebuild and to either sign now or leave now.
For a fine exposition of what you are saying (not to mention a tonic), see sick swan :)

Killer football.

especially as Garcia has refused to sign a new contract and wants to go...shouldn't be anywhere near the 1st team squad
Totally agree, when the Barca story first came out, just before the Madrid game, Pep correctly , immediately dropped him from the squad, I could not believe when he brought him back for the Lyon game, terrible management.

Garcia gets unnecessary stick on here, but at the end of the day he wants out, so should not be anywhere near our squad.
