I don’t think signing a fullback is going to make Rodri any quicker is it? I’m fairly sure we will still notice Rodri fading out of camera shot as he jogs back whilst the opposition midfield have a free run at our defence.
It will make him look less vulnerable for sure. Legs in midfield aside Rodri (someone like Foden next to KDB) and set left backs will change the outlook of our system. Busquets and Javi Martinez didn't have any pace compared to even Rodri, both thrived under Pep, it's not a coincidence.

He has a good game he's a "beast" he has a poor one (clearly not the only one) and he's terrible. We've won 4 titles in like 10 years... We just played our 2nd premier game in a season that will not be easy for anyone in a time where a little positivity goes a long way. Leave the flapping and sky falling to the children: either toughen up, stick with it and actually support the team and the changes (Rodris not going anywhere) or cry like a baby and blame a player who at least isn't laughing off his own screw ups.

He's had about 35 shit games, not one.

He's absolute dogshit and doesn't fit our needs one bit.

But herein lies the problem.

A record signing who needs X,Y and Z to look a decent player.

Remember when the rags used to go on about Pogba needing this that the other to "free him up"?

That's how you sound.

False comparison, X y z are important in enabling certain type of players to shield the backline. If you bring a Busquets or Javi Martinez in this side you will see the same issues, understanding the type of player he is here is more important, and Pep knows that. He's trying to do something different, it's just not working, it will click eventually.

Pogba's issue is laziness and work rate fyi, unlocking him was just a meme 2 years ago. He's stuck at United and now no one wants him.

Pep's system is reliant on a player like Busquets, Javi, Lahm etc. They don't need to be pacy or a Fernandinho (Re; why they went for Rodri after missing on Jorginho), he made that adjustment when he came to England because a ready made all in everything Fernandinho was just available. Let's not act like Fernandinho's first year under Pep was something to remember either, people have short term memories it seems. It just happened to work out in time.

The team is unsettled without any pre season and large number of injuries, if we get a left back, we will revisit this and you will see.

This all looks like more than just doubts have started to creep in about Pep's ability and what he wants, quite interesting.

like the Revie plan?

Not a single one of Liverpool’s centre mids are any quicker than Rodri yet they don’t struggle. If your centre mid is having to sprint backwards from the halfway line towards his own goal with no support in sight, then the problem is far deeper than just how quick he is.

Javi Martinez moved to CB

Busquets played with the 2 best midfielders of the last 30 years

Rodris far too slow and immobile to play this system

.
I'd say Wijnaldum and Fabinho are to an extent, also a lot more physical. others definitely not.

good comparison because it also seems our fans want our midfield to function like theirs now lol

Javi, Schweinsteiger and Lahm all played defensive mid under Pep. Neither were rapid or had legs. It still worked. Busquets was lauded as the best defensive midfielder in the world even after Xavi and Iniesta left.

Also, doesn't that prove that those types of players need to be accommodated into the side a certain way? Pace isn't everything, defensive awareness improves with age and experience as I said. Rodri will come good for us, seems to be a fuck load of impatience

I think perhaps we do need a bit of a hybrid, we absolutely need another body in there. I’ve said it about 5 times on here since Sunday but a return to the inverted left back is crucial. Ferna/Delph & Gundo/Zinch formed a solid base for us in Peps best seasons. Maybe Ake will be the one to slot in there once the CBs return & allow us to have the more mobile bodies in front of them (I.e KDB & Bernardo).

What is Pep's system anymore? We don't play the same way we did. We've gone from wingers hugging the touchline on their strong foot, creating width and stretching defences, with full backs coming into midfield for an overload to the opposite, wingers coming inside and full backs attempting (poorly) to give us width. Are we a team that plays 1 pivot or 2 going forward? Not sure where we are heading tactically.

I think rodders may come good, but he needs to be in a two In some games with a more mobile partner and I think Doyle could be the answer

A strange comparison. Entirely different setup. They have 3 of them to do the job as well as cover the fullbacks, we don’t play like that. You simply have to be mobile to play the anchor in our midfield, he isn’t. It’s not his fault, it’s just piss poor scouting.

Anyway, I’ll try not to derail the thread anymore with all this Rodri talk.

The whole team needs to up their game. Our passing and ball retention has gone to shit. We need to improve and we will. New cbs are a start. Build a strong defence and the rest will come good.

That’s kind of the point I’m trying to make mate. Even Fernandinho at his best wasn’t playing alone as an anchor, Delph inverted from LB and sat right next to him. As did Zinchenko the year after.

You could put Claude Makelele in our current set up, but play against Leicester with a single DM, one CAM & 4 forwards with two fullbacks upfield and you’re gonna lose regardless. Which is just what happened after Dinho went off on Sunday.
