General Videogame Thread

After a 3 or 4 year hiatus, I’m back playing games again. I don’t have a console I’m playing on my laptop with an Xbox controller. Noticed that Xbox game pass is available on PC... is it a no-brainer to subscribe to this? Or is it not worth it?

This seems a nice way to have access to over 100 games overnight?

Worth trying for a quid for the first month.

The games are never yours as it's like a renting kind of deal but they let you keep the game until they remove it and you do get some awesome titles. GOW, HALO and Forza Horizon 4 is a great game if you like racing.

On game pass you download them, right, not sream them like most of PlayStation now?(which I accidentally subscribed to and is fucking terrible)

Yeah, love Forza. I have only played the early ones where it wasn’t an open world, so looking forward to trying Horizon 4 on game pass.

So is game pass basically a way they try to get you to buy the games? You get hooked on a game, they take it away and you then have to pay for it? That is a little bit off putting if it’s like that. Does every single game on it get taken away at some point? Or are some permanent fixtures?

I think the idea is to have as many subscribers as possible so they can market it to advertisers. The main exclusives seem to stay on. Its the multiplats that come and go

Yeah it's great and it's in the UK and is a mixture of places in Cumbria and Scotland. Really cool to drive around and see some British countryside and recognisable places like Edinburgh and Ambleside. I suppose you could look at it that way. I just look at it like renting a game until they ask for it back lol One downside is that games can be removed before finishing them yes, I'm not sure if titles have a certain amount of time on there or what. I was getting into Kingdom Come Deliverance and it got removed so that annoyed me. Some recently added great games are Outer Worlds and Fallout 76 and Red Dead Redemption 2 so they should be on a good while and are pretty immersive open world games.

All Microsoft first party games stay on game pass forever(apart from Forza Motorsport 6. That has never been on game pass although that's something to do with track liencesing issues). Other games do go off it but Microsoft tell you 30 days in advance and offer discounts of 10-20%(sometimes more) to buy the game outright

Looks like the Microsoft-Bethesda deal is going to benefit game pass users already.

Doom Eternal is coming to games pass Xbox tomorrow and game pass PC by the end of the he year. This has only been out 6 months and is still full price.

And FINALLY Forza Motorsport 7 comes to games pass next Thursday

What do you think the impact will be to any potential new games like a new elder scrolls game? Will that now become an exclusive to x box?

I think Fallout and Elder Scrolls will remain multi platform as they have a huge fanbase and Microsoft will make more money from them being on all consoles. When Microsoft bought Minecraft they kept it multi platform and are making a ton of money off it.

However you don't spend $7.5B to put games on other platforms.

I think the first big game to be an Xbox/pc exclusive will be Starfield. Then other Series new games like Doom, Prey ect will become Xbox/pc exclusives.

Also they acquired around 6 studios in that deal so any new IP's they now develop will become exclusives

This is really bad news for ps4/5 owners. Starfield was one game ive been looking forward to for a long time.

Think it depends how far down the line the development is.

If it's very far down the line then maybe they'll keep it on PS4/5 but have it has a timed exclusive for Xbox/pc then 6 months to a year later it'll be released on PlayStation.

I could definitely see Microsoft moving the Dev teams to xbox/ pc from PlayStation and making it a Xbox/pc only has though

Don't forget Microsoft are one of the most profitable companies in the world and apparently they have money to burn.

Heard a rumour their Xbox budget for this and next year is more than Nintendo and Sony's combined for the next 3 years. They really are going all in this generation and they are definitely scouting to buy more studios with Sega being mentioned

I've waited 9 years for a new elder scrolls, i could cope with an extra 6 months. Games like that being exclusive for xbox would be a huge selling point if they do though.

Yeah and all these games will be day one on game pass.

You pay £10.99 and month for game pass on Xbox and PC and you will get the new Elder Scrolls game day one. On PS4/5 you will have to pay £60/70 to play it day one.

Game pass is crazy value for money now and next month EA play joins it then the entire back catalogue of ZeniMax studio games plus day one release of their new games as they are now owned by Microsoft.

Now imagine those rumours are true about Microsoft buying Sega. That would be insane.

There are currently around 15 million subscribers to game pass so that's around £120-140M a MONTH Microsoft are getting just off that
