Southgate has named his squad. Three games coming up, two friendlies and a qualifier. No foden no Greenwood. Maguire in.

is Southgate the most bland uninspiring England manager of all time?

if he isn’t sacked by July next year when England crash out of the euros it’ll be because the FA can’t find anyone else to accept the job

I nominate @BlueHammer85, as he appears to be the most fervent England supporter on this forum.
:-)

Any credibility he had has gone now with allowing Maguire in but double punishing two young lads.

Maybe they should have just taken a leaf out of Liar Liar's book. "I tripped and fell naked onto a young lady, who, also being naked due to the unseasonal heatwave in Iceland, opened her legs instinctively to catch what she thought was my arm grasping an apple, betwixt her thighs."

lol , because I’m not full of pure hate and venom against anything England related i’m the most fervent fan!

to be fair, Southgate did a great job at World Cup and I like he picks a lot of youth, if anyone thinks we’d be world beating playing exciting footie and picking a squad that would make everyone happy then they’ve got a long wait.

Did a great job at the World Cup? FFS I think I’m more likely to agree with your views on VAR

We got to the semi final and was close to getting to the final. Considering everyone says the England team is shit, I’d say a Manager that got us close to a final did a decent job.

Christ. We were dire and lost to the only two decent teams we played sneaking past Columbia on pens having humbled the footballing super powers of Tunisia and Costa Rica.

And ultimately destroyed by an ageing Modric.

Set-pieces and penalties got us that far.

Belgium, with Roberto Martinez, put us back in our box - twice.

England couldn't beat any half decent team they came up against

We beat Tunisia and Panama then got beaten by Belgium
Then in the K/O stage drew with Columbia and progressed on pens
Beat Sweden
Got beaten by Croatia and then got beat in the 3rd/4th place play off, although that's a non entity game

But in our competitive matches
P6
W3
D1
L2

And our tactics were utterly dreadful. Watching our game vs Iceland the other week and it was the same old uninspiring crap

Stopped following England years ago as it's the same old players being picked because they play for certain clubs. Southgate is nothing more than a shithouse yes man to the FA

I stopped bothering when it became evident that to play for your country you didn't even have to be born in it, there are players who have loads of choices to play for loads of countries.

really think we would be playing sexy free flowing football under a different manager ?

international football is generally pretty dire, players are not used to playing with each other and small nations sit 11 behind the ball and happy to keep the score down.

World Cup was great, not that we played that well, but reaching a semi final and being that close to a final is not something England fans have had in a very long time and may not again, so I lapped it up and enjoyed it (helped having my stag doo in Amsterdam when we beat Sweden)

suspect though even if we won the World Cup, people would still rush to the keyboard to moan about tactics and how lucky we was

Fuckin nodding yes man

Any decent manager would have given them the mother of all bollockings then said its forgotten but do it again and you're finished

This clown has reacted like he's never done anything wrong in his life... actually the boring waistcoat probably hasn't

Hope England get thrashed

He did an average job.

We had a favorable path once out of a favorable group. We lost to the only decent teams we came up against in Belgium and Croatia. His limitations as a coach/manager were clear to see in that semi-final. That is not on him though as we knew he was limited.

We should have parted ways on good terms after that tournament. Who would replace him is a another question, our squad is pretty poor with our best players being mostly potential, so I doubt they'd be a lot of takers.

Just for reaching Semi Final, I think he deserves another tournament.
I’m not over fussed to be honest, but I do give him credit for the youth he has given chance too
