TV Series

Brilliant series, just finished series 5 myself.
Great characters in it, good storylines, really well acted.

Many of the actors also appear in Sons of Anarchy which was developed by one the guys responsible for producing The Shield (Kurt Sutter, I think he was called: he also has a small acting role in each series)

Sons of Anarchy is also worth a look if you haven't seen it. It's like Hamlet on Harleys...

My only criticism of The Shield is that I'd have liked some of the non-Strike Team characters to have been given a bigger role, e.g. Claudette and Dutch

Really?

Did S01 and found it to be basically a load of tripe.

I can see that - it’s very quirky but watchable in my opinion with each series having an unusual angle - the lead character really reminds me of Robin Williams too, I was sure they were related!
Jessica Biel kept me going through the first series though but it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea!!

We are we watching the first three series of Fargo, there's a new season coming on here in October so they put the first three on Catch Up TV.
Just finished season 1 which is absolutely brilliant, more enjoyable on the second watch, Billy Bob Thornton is excellent in his evil assassin roll and Martin Freeman is superb also. I recommend anybody who hasn't seen it to watch it, in my opinion it's one of the best TV series made.
Then again I love most things by the Coen Brothers.

I liked all 3 series and will obviously be watching the 4th. Some people didn't like the 3rd, because of Ewan McGregor possibly, perhaps he's seen as a standard Hollywood actor now rather than an oddball as most of the other actors have been, but David Thewlis was excellent - very creepy.

Watching Prodigal Son with Michael Sheen. Intriguing, bit weird but entertaining. The son (main character) is fascinating guy to watch, Sheen seemingly doing a good ‘nice spider’ seduction performance - deceptively dangerous in an almost Hannibal Lector way but with more of a hidden menace, and the overarching story arc is really starting to go deep/get twisted after 5/6 episodes.

I thought the first was brilliant, the second weird but oddly compelling but the third shit. The 1st series felt very Fargo like which was a great movie.

Shit forgot to put Fargo in my top 20 movies.

Late to the party but just finished season 2 of succession - superb storylines and acting and a strong recommendation for anyone that’s not seen it yet

The Fall. Wow. Very dark and what an ending
Yeah very good. Gillian Anderson is also very very good.

The rampant sexism got to me though, not a single male was prtrayed as anything other than stupid/crass/evil/bumbling/etc and I think every femal was portrayed as a step above their male counterparts.

I totally am all for sexual equality but that wasnt it, it was sexist revenge where women win and men fail. The scene where she picks a lower rank male to fuck - wtf.... if a man did that it would be villified, if a colleague arranged for a "female" officer to be brought onto the team for a male officer to screw it would be wrong - Not if a woman does it. wtf? I just dont understand that, it is wrong whomever does it.

Then, in its clamour to fight back against social injustice it manages to portray nearly every fat person as a bit of a clutz, or a little bit stupid or bumbling. tbh I think it went ott with the "men are just abhorations of nature" line.

Nonetheless I think it was a brilliant series, the intensity was gripping, gillian Anderson was and is brilliant (We saw her in Street Car and she's got a big range of acting skills.

Not watched S3 yet, it seems to be being dragged out, will watch it one day and maybe that series undoes all the above I moaned bout but next going to watch Des. Anyone seen that? Worth it?

Better than UK version?
Very different but enjoyed it.
Original version was obviously much lower budget but felt it kept me engrossed throughout.
This version was a lot slicker and had some big name actors but didn’t quite hold me as much as the first.
Like I said, still enjoyed it though.

Well said Gordon, GA does wear a silk blouse with a certain panache. Beats Juliet Bravo any day!

Overly analysed to death.

Think there wasn’t as much fuss made about things like this when it was filmed. Would he uproar now though I agree.

S3 isn’t as good and a season too far for me but watchable.
