How good were Pink Floyd?

Bollocks mate, I played in a band 20 years ago and Comfortably Numb and ABIYW were in our repertoire.
I can play those solos easily, I can also play WYEH., Dave got his sustain from effects and overloading his amp. Bending like that is easy with 9 guage strings.
For me he did nothing that clever on guitar but I did like his tone. Dave is effective on the pentatonics with added passing notes, all I'm saying is he's not truly great, neither is Clapton imo.
But PF fans surely are easily offended :)

If you want to hear true innovation on guitar listen to the solo on Kid Charlamagne by Larry Carlton Steely Dan.

Or this lad. Who IS truly brilliant I could never get near this standard. :)

You’re missing the point in what I was saying. There are plenty of guitarists who can play his solos - I used to be in a tribute band called Floydian Slip and I’ve played the songs you mention. There are plenty of guitars who are technically better and I named a couple. But some guitarists have the ability to put feel into their playing through using techniques such as bending and sustain. If you don’t hear that were not going to agree.

i do agree on Steely Dan though - very inventive

All Gilmour's guitar dubs. There is some debate on whether it's real or not.. sounds the part to me.

Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb...

Superb, that's how good they were. I'm 32 and would happily listen to a Pink Floyd album. Enjoyed an afternoon with "the wall" on vinyl.

Some guy at work mentioned a cover band "Brit floyd" I think it is? That they are better live than the original band. I've seen footage and they do look great.
