How do you know - he has hardly played there in 2 years and when he played there along with rodri it fell apart when Ferna was taken off (now of course that could have happened the other way around as well of course ) but its unfair to judge Ferna when there is little data to suggest either way

Fera at peak is so much more effective than Rodri has been but Im willing to submit that peak has probably passed
But we're not discussing that are we?

Why do you bring up peak Fernandihno? This isn't a discussion about who is all time greater. The answer to that is self evident.

The discussion is about who has been better 'this season.' the margin isn't close. Ferna is not his 2017-18 self. He is a far less Athletic and less effective version of his old self.

Rodri is better currently. And if I'm being honest, it's not close.

Bloody long wait till this. International football meets to be be scrapped.

...........Ederson.........

Walker.....Dias......Laporte.......Ake

..............Rodri.......

........KDB.........Bernardo........

Mahrez.......Agüero...........Sterling

Hope we have a striker fit as we’ve looked pretty toothless so far.

Need to win this.

Ferna > Rodri

Fernandinho is still better than Rodri in the central defensive midfield role in front of the centre backs ... drops back in between the two when needed and gets forward and moves the play forward whenever there’s an opportunity and senses danger on counter attacks and is always in the right position to stop that ... Rodri goes around in a whole circle with the ball without giving it away so looks like he’s retaining it in pressure but then passes the ball to the teammate closest to him and that’s that ...

So I’d start Ferna in every big game of the week and keep Rodri for the second game ... since we’d be playing two games a week every week till almost the end of the season.
Completely agree. Will also add that Fernandinho > Rodri > Gundogun.

If you're in a time warp and you're watching Fernandinho c. 2017, you are spot on
Fair enough. I just don’t see it. He’s very tidy but for a CDM not to be able to close opponents down and move the ball forward quickly, especially in our system where both things are vital, I’d personally still have Fern in there for the big games until we get a suitable replacement for him.
I suppose for the last year we’ve been just as good and haven’t seen any drop off in that area, so you must be right...

if one is undeniably wrong then change the focus of the debate. Hence he brought up peak Fernandinho, may as well bring up Peak Cavani.
Now is all that matters, and Fern is struggling to last 35 minutes at anywhere near the required level.
Great to bring on later though as at Leeeds

I only brought it up as a comment to show that at present we have regressed in that position.

there is little evidence to go off to say who would be better in that position at present as ferna has hardly played ther in 18 months or so - people keep saying his legs have gone but i don tsee that...i do see he cant play every 3 days which is fair enough but when they played as the double pivot it was doing well till ferna was taken off and then it fell apart.
Of course it could have happened the same way if Rodri was taken off as well

But there is litttle evidence to base an opinion on who is better there at present

This is basing on everyone is fit again.
Ederson; Walker Dias Laporte Ake; Fernandinho Bernardo De Bruyne; Sterling Jesus Aguero

Would be nice if those saying peak Dhino is better than Rodders, would afford the time for Rodders to reach his peak with us, so as to make a more reasoned argument.
No one isnt giving him time.....

Rodri has many qualities..he reminds of Barry which for me is a great compliment (not as well versed in the dark arts as Barry was however).

His passing and positioning is great.

Ive noticed he has started shooting more (he has a hammer of a shot on him) - which is somethign as a team we do need t start doing a bit more at times (from distance).

The issue is however that his lack of mobility (which im not sure is ever going to change) does leave us exposed - its not just him however -its the system which Pep plays that also causes that - the fullbacks used to cme inside more to add to that midfield - we seeemed to be doing that less and less -the front 3 (whoever they are) seem to have stopped pressing as much -all this contributes but he does have a part ot play in it as well

Comparing peak Dhino to today's Rodri and then stating he is not fit to lace his boots is churlish and is the message I'm taking from here on recent posts

I never said anything about not fit to lace his boots

He is a downgrade in terms of defensive cover however which is what I have said and i dont think many would disagree

Rodri is hardly a kid either

Given this new energetic and much steelier Arsenal,we could probably do with Gabby's industry and workrate,he defends from the front better than our other forwards. This won't be a game for passengers.

Yeah, but I'm not keen on including two forwards both coming back from injury and starting. Comes down to Jesus v Aguero for me and Kun wins out. I trust Ferran to put in the hard yards and prove himself.

Kun has never returned from a lay off looking anywhere close to form, especially not after a prolonged lay off such as this.Gabby is naturally far fitter and would be the wiser option IMO.

If previous is anything to judge by......it will take Aguero at least 3 games to get up to speed.
