I think restaurants need to advertise meals £10 per person or half price Monday to Wednesday for when they reopen but take payment now. That keeps money coming in while they're closed and if they have a restaurant full of people on those days when they come back, then that's more people buying drinks etc. Assuming they will reopen before Christmas a lot of people go for meals at that time of year. The decent restaurants will do well.
Pubs are a bit trickier but I'm sure they could come up with something. Makes sense to me.
Restaurants operate at around 65% dry margin, pubs (managed houses) wet margins are similar maybe a touch more at 70%, tenancy could be as little as 40%.
Now subtract wages at 25/30%.
Utility ...etc
Put simply there is no way to discount and still make it worthwhile to open the doors.
