Arsenal (H) Post match thread

An odd game where both teams wanted the other to have the ball and hit on the fast counter.Fair play to Pep he learned from the FA cup debacle against them.

In regards to the Sergio “incident”
From the premier league website.
So Sergio should/could have got a yellow card by their rules.
Exactly the same offence in that image, their image.
So if he gets banned it’ll be because he plays City, not for the first time. 309D94DB-C55B-4A6F-BA31-8088AE02C483.jpeg

I think that was a really important win against a side with momentum who outhustled and outthought us last time out, missing De Bruyne and Laporte, coming off a break, when others near the top dropped points. Very heartened by toughing that one out. Walker was my MOTM — played the sweeper role really well. Eddy confident, Bernardo lively, Dias steely. Important to see us grinding out wins against a very sound attacking side. After our iffy start getting back to 3 points just a very pleasing feeling.

Couldn't watch live, so I watched a replay of first half (all I had time for right now) to analyze player performances free of stress of watching game. All of this is just 1st half, I'll watch 2nd half tomorrow.

My understanding of the formation was that it was a 4231, with Rodri pushing up making it a 3331.

Ederson - Did everything right. Distribution on point, and cleaned up any corners nicely. Saka had two chances, and shot at him with power, and dealt with easily on the first, with a great save on the second. Saved a brilliant chance on the 40th as well. MotM based on 1st half.

Walker - Basically covered the right flank perfectly, and pockted Auba, almost forgot he was playing.

Dias - Not much to do, most Arsenal chances were not in his position, but commanded the center vocally with some good passes. Covered one cross near the end that got through Cancelo.

Ake - Tidy, didn't create anything, but aggressive at all the right times.
-----------------------------------------
Rodri - Other than him being fine passing from the back or passing through in general (barring one mistake), his defensive performance was quite lacking. Saka roasted him atleast 2 times, and he was fairly lazy on defending the space on Saka's best chance as well by instead putting his hands up and protesting something. I was very unimpressed, definitely the worst City player on the pitch this half.

Cancelo - Like Bernardo, played in a hybri 8 role. My interpretation of his role was basically "be wherever the space is, offensively and defensively". Covered Mahrez defensively more than Bernardo had to cover for Foden. Both of them did drop very deeper when needed, Bernardo moreso. Tidy going forward but nothing special.

Bernardo - Same as Cancelo, but "bubble-gum" like ball control. Ran through the midfield alot in the first quarter, less so after, but always brought control and energy. Needs to add more creativity to his game though in the final third.

Foden - Has to score. Had 2 golden chances, luckily one of them went to Sterling. Amazing pressing energy in the LW, more so than Mahrez.

Mahrez - Sometimes a little lazy in pressing, but I'm spoiled by Foden, Jesus and the likes ability. Even though I'm not his biggest fan, basically created 80% of anything we did offensively with his passing. If he learns to dribble and pass more often than dribble and shoot he goes up a level in consistency.
------------------------------------------------------
Aguero - Not much, tidy for his first game back, helped create Fodens chance. But nothing much more than that.

Sterling - Played the 10 role very well imo. Dropped deep, carried the ball and drove at defenders. Needed the players around him to create more, but I was impressed by his first half performance. Always where he needs to be to get that goal.

People are so swept up in the arguing on twitter they forget about real life. Pointless lives being played out over and over.....

Aguero will probably just be fined at max and nothing more, I don't think he had ill intentions, it was definitely awkward and not a good look in the moment however, quicker we move on from this the better. He probably will acknowledge it was an error in judgement.

Quite a boring game imo, I nearly fell asleep on the hour Mark.
Lots of passing but lacking in penetration.
I watched the Merseyside derby before it and Liverpool look much more aggressive and dangerous up front than we do.
Dias looks great as does Ake.
Good to have Silva back. Ed saved us... twice.
3 valuable points though.
I'm not a Rodri fan, why is he chosen over Fernandinho ?

Our right side still needs sorting, maybe Dias will have better understanding than Walker with Cancelo but those 2 need to be communicating a lot more than they did. Saka had a great game for Arsenal and was largely not handled well by either Walker or Cancelo, nearly scored 2 times if not for Ederson.

Maybe pep is managing his minutes? Fern wasnt needed from the start today. I'd say that was a good decision. Just my opinion.

He wont get a ban. The media will huff and puff but ultimately nothing will happen. Storm in a tea cup my friend.
Absolutely!
Saw a ref put their arm around a player recently. It’s ONLY because it was Sian Massey that anyone gives a rat’s!

THIS IS WHAT EQUALITY LOOKS LIKE!

Unless he said something SEXUALLY ABUSIVE to her, then it is a pure double standard!

Players touch officials ALL THE TIME, and they shrug them off. IF THEY DON’T STOP, THEN THERE’S A ISSUE!

And, Pep does Sergio no favors by saying shit like “He’s a nice guy!” He should have shut it down immediately with, “Are you serious? Why, because she is a female? How sexist are you?!”

It was simply not on mate, look at the way he grabbed her and got shrugged off. Most watching that knew It was bad and awkward, no need to make it look like anything else. Pep always defends his players so that's different, but I do agree it should not warrant any punishment other than a fine maybe.

Are you fucking serious? You say he grabbed her?

It depends on what was said, all the officials are miced up so they will have that conversation taped.
