Porto (h) post-match thread

This season is all about managing players game time as we will be playing a stupid amount of games in a shortened season. Job was done ok tonight against a bus parking team. As soon as left their 631 formation we picked them off. Walker excellent again. Looks like Ferny could be out for a while which is the downside. Ref useless and what’s the point in VAR when players can kick out off the ball. Yellow cards will come back to haunt us but hopefully we win our next three, qualify and then players can be rested and squad used even more

Much better second half, but that first was by no means good enough. We need some of these injured players back asap, namely Kev, Jesus and Laporte then we should be a completely different outfit.

Good win tonight, some lovely play from Foden Torres at the end.

FFS mahrez.
Cancelo dodgy.

If that's not a red card for Pepe then i don't know what is...oh wait UEFA is a corrupt fucking mess.

How was he worse than Dias?

He left a runner for the chance that Walker cleared off the line and Dias have away the ball for the first goal.

Can you actually give a reason to pick him out?

If I start with him running away from the ball, when Dias gave it away, then hiding behing Cancelo as he shat away from the ball, playing offside with his fucking back toward his team mates, standing leaden footed as the cf ran from in front of him to behind him.

For starters.

Good win. Glad to see Sergio get a goal and Gundo’s goal should shut one or two up on here. Great goal from Torres too so not much to complain about.
Pepe is still a ****.
The first hour was absolutely awful. Gundo being technically superb should come as a surprise to nobody but Pep going straight back those 2 in centre mid is a worry and it was no surprise how slow and ineffective we were until we brought on some energy and drive.

I still have trouble with keeping Garcia and selling for Tosin for nothing. Stones who wants to be here should have played.

Cancelo needs to play higher, he is not the defensive fullback that Ake and Walker are which provides us with stability that our attackers need.

If Pep wants to play Rodri and Gundogan together it can't be in an isolated midfield, they needed Bernardo there and once he dropped deeper it looked like something useful.

Ferran and Foden put a smile on my face for that goal, hope to see more of that.

Mahrez needs to focus on creating more instead of fannying about.

Otherwise well we move on.

Sounds bad with Ferno, just listening to Peps interview on BT

Fernandinho out for “a long time”.

At the end of the day we don't need Fernandinho in October and November, we need him in April and May, and his role is very clearly as a sub/rotation option this season anyway.

Hopefully more chances for Doyle and Fern will be back in the business end of the season when we need him.

Reactions: Ric
The referee’s performance was a sad reflection of the problems of allowing officials from third grade leagues - Latvia in tonight’s case- to take charge of first grade teams and matches.
It’s all very democratic but it leads to out-of-his-depth performances like tonight’s.
Or I could be making allowances for what looked like some very suspicious decisions.
