The Conservative Party

You’re right Rascal but you have to blame the challenge that Corbyn mounted and the manifesto they declared... it made them unelectable so they have to shoulder the blame too... it’s a shit-show that’s for sure
Not at all, it is any parties right to produce a manifesto according to how there party membership or leader or combination of both decide, whether that be Tory, Labour, Monster raving Looney of CPGB then it is up to the electorate to decide. I would not blame the electorate anymore than I would blame any person or any political party for standing for what they believe in. I am on record on here saying that at the moment I can not see myself voting Labour for the foreseeable future because I no longer believe in the party, that is my personal democratic right. If you don't have political choice you risk becoming a one party state and a dictatorship.

“You lot”.... I don’t see even this preventing the Tories getting in again with the standard or the Labour Party and shadow cabinet we have... when you have the likes of Angela Rayner being reprimanded by the speaker you realise the scale of the problem... don’t get me wrong, the way Parliament works is antiquated but you surely can’t be happy with the calibre of some of them. I also get that you can only work with what you have and these people were elected but I really done see a coherent challenge happening any time soon
This is how far politics has fallen of late, Rayner gets more attention for a word in Parliament than Jenrick gets for blatant acts of corruption.

It indicates acting corruptly is fine, saying the wrong word is not. Parliament is antiquated, its procedures archaic and its usefulness as a democratic institution is i believe under threat. When a member has to apologise for a spoken word but another member can lie with impunity and not have to apologise there is something seriously wrong with our democracy. When Government front benchers can get away with dismissing questions, or answering a different question, or simply ignoring a question you have to question whether our democratic institutions are fit for purpose.

We have also seen the pillars of democracy challenged, the three pillars of the Executive, The Judiciary and The legislature get side lined by an overarching Executive becoming more powerful than the counter balances, sadly all cheered on from the side lines by a media controlled mainly by foreign interest is it any wonder at all that Opposition is a thankless task, or in Starmer's case an impossible task.

Absolutely every party has to stand by a manifesto but the Labour document failed on the biggest issue of them all for that particular election... Brexit and that’s why nobody (or not enough anyway) could vote for it..

I am blame free re the current situation as I live in a Labour safe seat but even here in Alyn and Deeside which has always been a Labour stronghold they held the seat by around 30 votes I think which tells you everything

I’m not sure she did apologise, just withdrew the comment?

Re your point about policitians lying. I agree it’s true however it’s so endemic in all parties that they roll off the tongue daily... I’m not sure what they can do to change it but I gave up a long time ago waiting for a straight answer from any elected official

I am pro-Brexit and still voted Labour at the last election.

It's because we elect party mouthpieces rather than individual MPs to represent us. I remember a while ago when the subject of proportional representation came up and people were saying that it would remove that link between an MP and the constituency they represent, but a lot of the time it just doesn't exist. Politicians lie or refuse to give a straight answer because they're not allowed to by their party. Politicians represent the party to the constituents rather than the constituents to the party.

Read the full thread........those who lent their votes should hang their heads in shame. Ironically it will be the kids of some of them who will go hungry.

I don't think it mattered a jot what the manifesto said. Corbyn had been slaughtered in the main stream media, he had no chance, zero. As well as the media he was deserted by the so called labour voters who bought into the bullshit published about him, fuck them, they are welcome to their new leader, I'm done with them. This Tory govt couldn't be more corrupt if it tried yet they seem to get a free ride?

You only have to read some of the comments on here about Corbyn and note the lack of comment on the blatant corruption and dismantling of the pillars of our society by our current Government.

The brainwashed never realise they have been brainwashed, they just believe they are right.

Sad.

What bullshit did they publish about him?

Seriously? You object to calling Tories scum for voting for children to go hungry? How does corrupt scum sound? £30m for one consultant? All normal procurement out of the window and contracts to mates and relatives?

There are only a few Tories on here in fairness. The vast majority me included acknowledge that they are utterly wank. Now to throw a spanner in my new left leaning tendencies the free school meal debate is doing my head in. I find it bizarre that we should be feeding kids out of term time.

There has been a movement to isolate individual causes that I find really stupid and from a govt point of view it opens up a can of worms and I understand why they wouldn’t want to go down this route.

It’s an emotive issue though and I expect them to cave in. I applaud Rashford for his obvious good intentions but this is social media pitchfork territory.

If you take the school aspect out of it, then the question just becomes “should we ensure that no kids ever go hungry?” and that seems a fairly easy one to answer.

Ok, cool. Now what are you going to do about the parents who let their kids get in that position, or allow their kids to get in that state so they can spend the money on other things?

if you mean in a legal sense, the answer is nothing unless the child is in danger.
what you can and should offer is advice education etc

First instinct would be yes and outside of child abuse it’s a solid position but school dinners out of term time is a diversion. Like tampax poverty or hygiene poverty which are nonsense as campaigns the truth is some people are fucking skint, let’s deal with that maybe?
