The Conservative Party

I love the hypocrisy of the Tories who support capitalism seeing kids as a burden rather than a future unit of production. If as a capitalist you want to make the most out of your employees surplus value then it is in your interest that the future units of production are well educated and well fed. Seeing the future units of production as anything other than well fed and well educated is totally counter productive to capitalism.. A capitalist should think that investing in decent food for every child will mean that the investment bares fruit in the long term as the unit of production makes them more money. Maybe its just me but its highly probable capitalists are just fucking thick.
I find this bizarre too and I can't believe anyone would believe otherwise.

Regardless of the parents, no kid should go hungry and every kid should be given the best chance in life through quality education. Whatever that costs it doesn't matter because it's both the right thing to do and it pays for itself.

I mean christ, look at this tweet

You know it's bad when Farage can legitimately call you a ****.

The ultimate Capitalist endorsement.

All i can think is the scrounger/feckless/welfare dependency narrative has been used that often it is now second nature to think in those terms rather than think in an actual ideological process.

Kids don't choose their parents, maybe in a world where freedom of choice is the ultimate free market goal they have lost sight of this and instead revert back to the established narrative.

Me personally i would give my last penny to feed a kid, i would go hungry myself as i am sure some parents do as the overwhelming majority of parents will always put their kids first and foremost, it is human nature and nurture to do so, to be against that is arguing against human nature itself and as a result you are arguing against the future of humankind whilst living in the moment. Its dystopian.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, therefore it has to be said even the most massive of cunts must also be right on occasion.

Meanwhile the Spiked contrarian and all round gobshite Brendan fuckwit O'Neill is calling the story a moral pantomime of virtue signalling wokeness. Guess who funds Spiked? that proto capitalist organisation The Koch Foundation.

As I posted previously in this thread, this issue is being used by Capitalists to divide the working class.

Ok, cool. Now what are you going to do about the parents who let their kids get in that position, or allow their kids to get in that state so they can spend the money on other things?
I don’t knoww but if part of the answer is punish the child by not feeding them, then it’s the wrong answer.

Can someone tell me where I can buy a non-flat screen TV?

Also iPhones for the poor/homeless are a necessity as they need to bid for houses online

But let’s pretend all the kids of layabouts die of starvation - what do we do with the hungry kids of parents who are on 2/3rds income(at best) due to the pandemic?

Totally agree, my original point was not about the kids it was about the pond life parents.
With all due respect, you are conflating the two into one debating point. This is not about parents, it is about kids. The kids get fed at school, they will continue if allowed to get fed at school, which makes the parents a dead cat point in the debate. The kids in question already qualify for free school meals, Rashford was asking for the Free school meals to continue out of term time.

Feckless parents kids and hard working parents kids can both qualify for free school meals, so the parent issue is not really relevant.

Me personally I would make all school meals free, so the stigma that is attached to recipients of free school meals disappears. I used to take butties to school because everybody knew who got free school meals and it was a point of shame for many kids that their parents couldnt afford to pay for them. My mam and dad worked hard as well and they made sure I never went without, but they were not in a position to pay for school meals and heat the council house I grew up in. Back then though the scrounger narrative didn't exist because the post WW2 consensus of a state that made sure you fared well (welfare) from cradle to grave existed, nowadays that consensus has been eroded by neo liberalism and the free market dogma of the Hayekian and Friedman schools of economic thinking started by Reagan and adopted by Thatcher.

I'm fully behind any free school lunch type programme and I have to say Marcus Rashford is right up there with Kompany as a Manchester legend because of the issues he is raising.

Anyone calling this wokeness is just astonishingly ignorant and out of touch to say the least. We are in a pandemic and at these times we must maintain our humanity and right now deficits, budgets and national debt are of total irrelevance.

There is a reason why the appeal of this government has dropped like a rock, initially it went okay with Sunak announcing he would "do whatever it takes" but they've seemingly thrown that away, unless of course it involves London or setbacks facing their favoured businesses.

I hate politics sometimes I really do, the idea that this is a Labour/Tory/Blue-on-Red issue is again just incredible because it shouldn't be. Anyone and everyone should be fully supportive of people getting the help they need because I've seen in this pandemic it can touch anyone.

I'd expect an imminent U-turn because once again the government is finding itself trying to continue an 'anti-woke' agenda on the most unwoke issue facing the country.

Kevin Bridges on the Last Leg just now responding to the idea that Rashford is just virtue signalling

" so even Jesus was a virtue signaller? I mean he cared for the poor but he did make sure Matthew Mark Luke and John put it in the book......" funny but sums up how evil the Nasty Party are.

Ha ha ha local Teesside pubs now banning 5 Tory MP's for life because they voted against. Could make holding their "business meeting lunches awkward" - not for Simon Clarke MP who stood down from his ministerial duties for " personal reasons "- Tory speak for shagging an aide. His tweets about "your duty is to look after your own family " look pretty fucking weak right now
