Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Pretty sad if it comes down to getting a decent 12 months out of Messi

I think that is the reality of it though, there is no way he would come here and Pep to be going, the other side of the coin is he goes back to coach Barcelona, but I'm siding with posters on here that if he leaves he will take time out.

So Lionel you little fucker get signing a pre contract agreement in Jan

I don't expect Messi to join us at all now and I think that will have little bearing on Pep's decision making. Its going to be difficult to get the winning formula back without a fully fit striker though..

If that's the deciding factor, thanks for the memories Pep, we can't be held to ransom and wait on the decision of an ageing Argentine, we as a club deserve better.
What if we get the golden ticket, Messi and Batistuta?

For all the “poch hasnt won anything”ers
Neither had Sarri.
Goes to chelsea and wins the europa league and goes to juve and wins the league. Sacked by both for not being good enough but still won trophies.
Managers dont win trophies, players do.

What you have to decide is, how do you want to win. Thats what a manager can influence. What he cant do is score the one on one when youre 5 mins from going out of the competition.

By all accounts Pep’s football philosophy has helped changed the way teams football and the way I appreciate it being played. But he is showing a lack of awareness or ability to adapt and for that reason could be our undoing unless our players (best in the league on their day) pull us through.

pep doesn't look to have the same intention, also players showing signs of might be his last season. I don't think pep is really a long term manager overall, but I did think at one time with his relationship with the board he would make city long term. year off then Juve or PSG perhaps

I did say he will stay but changed my mind now, kind of feels like the mancini and pallers last season in this incredibly dead rubber season anyhow.
It does. We have only got to look back to the Swamp that season Baconface announced he was retiring, before he changed his mind. The uncertainty may be damaging the squad. Something is anyway, that much is clear

By that logic, they don't lose matches either ir fail to win competitions.

Pep didn't really lose 9 games last season or drop points this season, so all is good. Extension please.

Actually wouldn’t be mad at Brendan Rodgers tbh at the end of the season if pep was to leave , I think he’s a good manager , and would suit the club well .

I want Pep to extend because I still believe he is one of the best tacticians out there.

That being said, he bothers me with statements like ”I don’t teach tackles” and ”I can’t teach forwards how to finish because that’s their job”.

Clearly Sterling hasn’t really improved his shooting or finishing all that much since Pep came in. He sure shows up in all the right places for tap-ins and such, but his finishing is STILL hideous. I can’t think of another forward who waste more chances than him. Rashford has a clean strike but Sterling can’t shoot like him even in his wildest dreams. His strike is terrible and not very clean and his decisionmaking is still haunting him, year after year.

As for some expensive signings like Rodri and Cancelo, I’d expect a lot more for them given their price and Peps teaching. It’s like he continues to buy all the wrong players for his own system. These guys are hugely expensive defenders, yet both of them fail a lot in that area. That’s on Pep.

I love how we play on a good day but sometimes I have serious doubts about Pep. I believe he gives some of his players a bit too much freedom and not enough hands-on teaching. Some players just keep making the same mistakes. On the other side, I see Klopp holding his players on a short leash and constantly improving them and erasing mistakes going forward. I don’t really see that in Peps coaching.

You can blame pep for our style of play having been made less and less effective over the past 18 months that then leads to more losses.

My argument is, if the manager is capable enough then with our players they will be successful irrespective of their previous success with lesser players.

However all managers must evolve after being in the same place for a long time if they are to sustain success. Currently pep is not doing that. Other teams have been able to study our play for 4 years and come up with ideas to counter it. We have let them because we havent been flexible enough to change.

Even the best has a shelf life and we cant drag our feet

I wonder if the club would consider giving Pep a sabbatical?

(not sure who takes over for the next year...)

Seems like he probably needs a year to chill out, have a few glasses of wine and enjoy the Spanish sun (or NY or wherever), before coming back to take the reins again

I don't disagree with that. But there is more to it, that's all. VAR errors against us, not having a fit forst choice team, cas debacle last year, etc.

How do you mean have little bearing on his decision ?

Course it will
Why?

And why the hell should it?

If he wants to extend and stay and rebuild great!

If he stays because he promised Messi, that's very wrong and unacceptable.
