The Conservative Party

The general theme of poverty has been around for well ever really and certainly it was being highlighted more due to the banking crisis and austerity. Now we have the pandemic.

For me this is a simple question of do we provide enough welfare to those who need it the most. This is a question of the benefit system ie universal credit. The left have been down this path almost non stop for a very long time. We still have a Tory govt.

I believe the reason why some Tories are against the idea of a govt feeding kids in this way is that there will never be a point when they can remove it without another shit show. It also opens the door to other things that kids need.

I have no idea how effective universal credit is but this particular problem should be covered by it.

As the Tories brought in universal credit my inkling is it's probably badly flawed.

the concept of universal credit is pretty good

unfortunately it has been introduced by the tories with rules designed not to meet the needs of the claimants but to limit the amount they can claim.

as always the tories want to punish the poor because in their world view the poor are poor because they are feckless and lazy.

Shameful parade on Twitter of Tory MP's - Javid and (not so ) Cleverly most prominent claiming that that Labour have an issue with successful BAME MP's and Ministers.......unfortunately failing to recognise Labour has more than the Tory Party - deflection, if its to work, has to be harder to see through than that?

When is French Mark up before the beak?
This is the party that constantly attacked Abbot, Butler Brent, and more recently Allin-Khan.

I'm guessing Penfold is currently under 'lockdown' trying to channel his inner Andy McNabb to escape the law.

Now now the levels of abuse are horrendous.

I mean look

I rememebr kids in school roundly abused with chants of " you have big dinners" one of the most hurtfull and violent abusive comments that you will see.

As for the major general, he is in his air raid shelter still, what he could be possibly hiding from only he and his victims know

On a point while at it on them crying over very tame insults, I recall when they had their conference in 2015 we played newcastle day before and town was full of them, we were walking up portland street toward the city/vine after a few in the grey horse, a few yound conservatives walked past all in their bland blue suits and one clocked the lenin badge on my mates lapel.

"Socialist scum" was uttered in a condesending tone from these young tories, we laughed a flick of the V's given and carried on going the pub, not worth causing mither.

I also remember 2017 after the march past being in the britons a load came in, the various union members in there were polite and friendly, and tried to discuss why the policies were hard on the public, may as well have been talking martian. No abuse or shouts of scum were leveled at them

Young Tories, if they have the bollox to set foot in our city again, I may spend a couple of days in the Britons educating them ever so politely. I fear they may call me an "oik" or something equally vicious.

Tory MP on BBC this morning.... has absolutely no idea on the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. Constantly referring to ''returning them'' should stay in the ''first safe country'' .

They are clueless ... throwing red meat to their base all the time.

Out of touch, moi? Tory Council leader tells poor to shop at M&S. There isn't one in his town.

I do wonder what planet these people live on. I live in a nice suburb of Manchester that is quite well off, has a couple of council estates and a lot of big houses. The busiest supermarket around is Lidl because its the cheapest, I go there myself because there is no way I could afford to shop at M&S or Waitrose, its too fucking dear.

I was having a discussion with a Tory councillor on twitter yesterday, he claimed absolute poverty has fallen which is a fair claim, but he could not grasp that whilst absolute poverty has fallen, average poverty has increased because the absolutes have joined the average. Its basic fucking counting. They are not in absolute poverty as defined, but that does not mean they are not in poverty, it means the description of absolute has changed not the situation and they are still in poverty. He appeared to think that not being in absolute poverty meant you were well off. This must be where they get the notion the poor can shop at M&S. They cannot grasp what being poor means. Poor to them is not upgrading the family SUV every two years, poor to me is deciding to heat or eat.

It’s the same tactic they use for most things “tougher sentences”, “crack down” etc. It simply won’t work, it never does

Andrew Pierce was on GMB this morning, he’s a horrible ****. Banging on about that they should stay in France, we are full etc

There are 70+ million people which are displaced. Either through climate change, conflict, famine, civil war etc. The idea we can’t take a few more thousand when 900 thousand are in countries like Pakistan and Turkey is as inhuman as it is absurd

I'm not one to generally reply to my own posts but this just about sums it up:

Organisations like Migration Watch have a lot to answer for, they spread lies and disinformation whilst ignoring other facts, like their are more refugees in Lebanon than London, or that Germany gives far more people refuge and has been highly successful at it, results show that recent immigrants to Germany are performing well in schools, the overwhelming majority work and they are adding to the economy. That of course does not suit populist rhetoric or nationalist exceptionalism. The Germans also have a fucking brilliant leader in Merkel, we have a buffoon who couldnt lead a circus.

We obviously can take a few more thousand asylum seekers (and maybe should) but there needs to be a system to determine whether someone actually is an asylum seeker or an economic migrant who may put more pressure on public services/housing etc than relieve that pressure.

I think that system should be more nuanced than simply saying, 'well they tried to cross the channel so they must be an asylum seeker'.

But he does lead a circus. He's done really well for a clown to get so far.
Must be his 6th grade education what done it.

If someone is that desperate they will put themselves, never mind thier kids, in a dhyngy to cross the world's busiest shipping lanes then I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. But either way 'Economic migrants' are dirt poor thanks to a system to live under and actively promote. We are happy to send thier 5 years old's down mines so we can have a cheap I-phone. That is a case of economic opression of which they have every right to flee.

Before anyoe starts with the 'safe country' one. Would you consider living in a refugee camp on an abandoned air port in the middle of Congo 'safe'? Would you really? Or living in the 'Jungle' in France?. I wonder why they call it the Jungle, by the way.....

We are the UK, Great Britian. A few thousand shoud nto be bringing our coutry to a hault. Turkey has 1 million - It's funnt how British exeptionalism works when it comes to Brexit, CoronaVirus etc. but doesn't extend to helping people

I rather enjoy the cries of ”We can’t help these people, we are too full, must look after our own first”

Then when it comes to actually shelling out to feed “our own kids” over Christmas, the fuckers suddenly change their tune.

#alllivesmater

Its seamless. But they either don't see it or choose to ignore. Unless, of course, when they say 'our own' they don't mean the poor and unfortunate they just mean people like them

You could also stretch it out when there is often an outcry that white working class kids are falling behind black working class kids. We can't have that! But rarely(never) get into the reasons why the white wokring class to white middle-class comparrsion.

They just don't care about the 'other' whoever the other is. They just need to pretend they care about someone in the abstract to justify why they don't care about a certain section. i.e We are full we can't have asylum seekers taking up doctors appointments. Then a story comes out of 'our own' missing doctors' appointments(without exploring why) and then quite effortlesslywant to fine 'our own' for such transgressions........
