Mostly because he's trying to make killer balls as opposed to the simple pass.

I'm not gonna debate the merits of a safe passer vs high risk/high reward as everyone should know we need a balance in a side which defends primarily through possession - but I will point out a made up stat when I see one!

Firstly Gundogan doesnt play the creative role that KDB does, so his assist will never match KDB's figures , as for the obsesssion with Gundogan absolutely not , i dont comment on his performance after every single game he plays , i leave that to others and their agenda. Gundogan is a top player his achievements in the game is the only proof you require.

If you think Gundo is a top player that's fine by me...I actually wish he was. Sadly, from my side, he just doesn't do enough but I hope he has a great season... good luck to him.

I thought Gundo's influence was very much on display against Leeds when he wasn't playing and both Foden (especially Foden) and Kev keeps trying to advance the ball at every single instance which resulted in us not keeping the ball and going back and forth with Leeds all game.

That was also largely due to our front 3 of Sterling,Mahrez and Torres not being able to hold the ball up and prevent the counter. We didn't wrestle back the upper hand until Bernie and Dinho entered the fray and neutralised their industry, something Gundogan is useless at.

We had no midfield control with Foden and KDB on as 8s, so Pep brought on 2 extra midfielders and Aké who played the inverted LB role.

He just stuffed the midfield with 6 players and stopped the end-to-end pattern of the game.

Agreed,Leeds were overwhelming us with numbers, but that only adds weight to to the fact our forwards weren't helping the matter.......And because of that,i don't see how Gundogan, instead of Rodri, would have made the difference.

Whether our front can hold up the ball or not, our midfield shouldn’t lose the ball irregardless. Moreover, when Bernie and Dinho came in we didn’t ‘neutralized’ then as much as the Leeds players being knackered. Your effort in discrediting Gundo is very valiant I must admit.

Fair comment , everyone will have a different opinion about some players , but its when it becomes an obsession pre-match , post match , Gundogan blindspot , Gundogan thread , and all in the same day , from one particular wierdo on here.

Gundogan has unique talents - a very good, accurate passer - not fleet of foot - not a destroyer - but will kill opposition with time on the ball. Going forward he has a good shot, and he's gifted on free kicks.

But he's not a holding midfielder - nor does he play best closer in.

Still, he's extremely gifted - and can definitely contribute for us. We need to play him in the right spot (probably deep attacking mid) against the right opposition (paired with a ball-winning defensive midfielder deep is where he'd shine).

Trouble is - Rodri isn't a fast-paced, ball-winning midfielder - and Fernandinho isn't playing nearly as often due to age.

As good as Gundogan is, he may be the proverbial square peg trying to fit into a round hole in our team.

Not discrediting him, merely pointing out his glaring weaknesses ;-)
