But it’s not the sole job of politicians or public health consultants. Macmillan estimate 50000 people are out there with undiagnosed cancers, 33000 have had their treatment interrupted, mouth and oral cancers not being spotted as no dental appointments are being made and that’s just for cancer..
Absolutely, but it's Covid numbers that slow downhealth care not lockdowns.

how can anyone have any faith in a lockdown when we can't even have faith in the timing of a briefing?
Exactly, the utter contempt these fuckers have for the general public makes my piss boil. The clueless twats have no idea what they are doing, just making it up as they go,and are treating people with total disrespect along the way.

Yep, Golf and walking the dog are just about the only things I am doing at present outside of work to keep me sane, no pubs, no restaurants, no meeting of friends and socialising. My Wife and I both have vunerable elderly parents and so take this very seriously.

Anyone who thinks playing golf puts me at a higher risk than walking around a supermarket or going to work does not understand the way this virus spreads.
Put my clubs away after last Sunday....I don't do golf in the wind/rain/cold etc.

I'll not be anywhere near them until early March on (if open) a driving range.

Exactly! yes it does have a correlation with case numbers but as you say, lack of beds etc is the main driver.

I live in an area with a huge University but a tiny Hospital that just about copes when the students aren't there, the shit has hit the fan due to half the students having Covid, resulting in no beds at the 2 nearest Hospitals.
A lot of places are starting to strain and flu hasnt even hit yet

No point shutting schools because the kids will be congregating on parks or round their mates house etc

I have not only had a smear during lockdown i also went to the dentist for treatment two weeks ago and going back next week, my mammogram has been put back only a month, i have also been to see the lung consultant and had lung function tests and due a ct . My point being , the nhs is not closed , you cant say you cant get screening and treatment everywhere . My brother was treated for lung cancer during lockdown as well

Good for you, genuinely. However, it’s most certainly not been the case for everyone, people I know and myself with my own medical referrals and their persistent delays.

Sounds like Brexit that. Unfortunately, they were given a majority to do what the fuck they like.

Leisure centres closing or staying open?
Fucking hope so.

I’ll be on the verge of a mental breakdown if I get to be flogged in a classroom all month exposed to over 50 or 60 different households and not be able to have any sort of outlet in this depressing time of year.

Regions:

Patients //// Ventilators

LONDON P UP 8 to 840 (was 625 wk ago) //// V UP 7 to 131 (wk ago was 80)

MIDLANDS P UP 57 to 1802 (was 1213 wk ago) //// V UP 1 to 193 (wk ago was 142)

NE/YORKS P 84 yo 2256 (was 1595 wk ago) //// V UP 7 to 157 (wk ago was 112)

But the North West had a remarkably good day:

Patients DOWN 75 to 2500 (was 2130 wk ago) //// V DOWN 3 to 210 (190 wk ago)

Early days and GM is not yet really a big factor in this as it seems to be elsewhere in the region but a week where it looked certain that by now the NW would be above the number of patients it had in at peak in the first wave in April (this was 2890) - is actually little closer than it was at the start of the week.

As for Ventilators - the peak here in April was 350 but it has slowed right down. Being only 7 above where it was 5 days ago.

The NW has easily made the most progress this week of all the UK regions, several of which have caught up fast in numbers.

Yep,my old man has had surgery cancelled twice.Scheduled for a week Sunday now,but i won't be surprised if he gets another set back.

Press conference for critically important national announcement at 4pm.

No, 5 pm.

No, 6.30 pm.

What a fucking unbelievable embarrassment our government is.

They clearly can't agree what they're doing, at the very last minute.

It's absurd, incredible fucking incompetence.

Not to mention the entire world media has had the story for hours and hours before the public get 'told' the news.

If THAT is the priority the UK public sit in their heads then why would they wonder if nobody bothers following rules?

Maybe he is re writing the detail now he let his pet Preston leak it and the UCU have already muted tutors and lecturors refusing to work in face to face lessons and could ballot if igbored.
NEU been less confrontational but insist education must be home based forthe month.

Also ned th echancelor to sign it off and they seem to have not even decided how to pay people yet who are out of work or wfh again.

Leading by example isn't exactly their speciality.......it's no excuse not to follow rules, but yes,i can see why many wouldn't.
