Walk, did more for me walking since lockdown, than the year before going to the gym. Doubt I’ll go back to the gym.
Mate I do plenty as those who follow me on Strava or Instagram can vouch for, it’s not necessarily me I’m taking about. In the running group I’m part of we have all ages paced and sizes who run with us, now some of these elder ladies who can’t come as you’re only allowed 2 people may not feel safe getting out alone so won’t go anywhere. It’s them I feel for.

I call you, I’ve run schools since 1999 and been responsible for supporting headteachers since 2014.
But you know better, you always do.
Where have i said i know better than you ? Where in fact have i had anything to do with you other than call out your snarky comments , it worked out so well when you did it before i recall..

I go running and cycling, can’t swim now though so that’s part of my training out of the window. Plus I’ve got weights at home, this doesn’t massively affect me, As for push ups and sit ups.... that’s not enough for everyone, how about the yoga or Pilates classes? How about heavy weights?
Are you really saying you cannot go a few weeks without the gym

Six days a week I go to the gym. Everyone wipes down their equipment, distances themselves from each other, wears a mask when entering and in the changing room, etc. To close them with the data around them is ridiculous.

The real issue is the schools. I occasionally see the school bus when walking back from the gym - the fucker’s full to the brim with school kids who definitely aren’t distancing, and most not wearing masks.
Fucking spot on.

heh, I was chatting to my godson the other day, he's 12. and he said the same about his school busses

I’m just commenting on the unadulterated bollocks I read, whomever they come from.
Unfortunately you provide more than most.

Everyone on here mentioned how out of date that data was. How has someone like Whitty not got a rolling 24hr updated set of data? I’d forgive him if he had Thursday’s data on Saturday with the announcement happening so quickly, but a week out of date? How has he got 7 days out of date data when briefing the entire country?

Interestingly, now we are going into lockdown based on cases, at the start of this it was the death figures we were looking at, why the change? Every single news channel was broadcasting hourly updates on deaths now it is cases, more people are being tested so of course that will be on the up, but it is showing that it is not as contagious to the vast majority of the public as we first thought. So.... do we do this continually until there is a vaccine? Will there be a mass roll out of vaccination for a virus that will affect 1% of people, most of whom are elderly and have existing issues?

I am not in favour of countries going into lockdown, it is creating other issues, poverty and social unrest for one. If we are going back into lock-down, then the first one didn't work did it? It this going to be on going indefinitely? Is it not feasible for vulnerable, eldery and anyone at risk to isolate along with anyone who feels worried by covid who wishes to work at home and socially distance? I am playing devils advocate a bit, I see a lot of people on here who are almost calling a full lockdown on, but there is also a rising % of the population who question its'' validity.
As I understand it, we're going back into lockdown because the number of cases means there will be more people going into hospital. The hospitals are starting to become full and it will mean that if we "do nothing" then we will end up with hospitals full of covid patients which will then mean there's not the same care given to other patients with non-covid diseases. I think I get this part, I hope! :)

I do think the first lockdown worked - the number of people in hospital dropped over summer, but started to creep up again at the end of September.

My concern is more that we're starting from such a high number that for this to work, the number of new infections each day probably needs to collapse to 500(?) per day for it to make a difference. I just can't see that this will happen.

Unless I'm missing something!

Fair enough I agree about groups meeting outdoors for walking, running. Easy to do as a group and stay safe. If gyms are closed then meeting for walks ,cycles or runs could be allowed safely. Get you point about going out alone on darker winter nights.

I don't think the numbers are reported from gyms. Aren't they coming from track and trace data? My gym is very well ventilated, never more than 7 or 8 people there and is a big space. Sanitiser and disinfectant everywhere for before/after you use the machines. I know not all are but I feel a lot safer in there than the supermarket.
Of the three supermarkets I go to, the one coffee shop I frequent, the one pub I’ve been to, the one restaurant I’ve been to, my parents house when I was in a bubble with them, the bus I get to work, work, and the gym... the gym was by far and away the best place for distancing and regular sanitising, best indoor space for ventilation, sensible conduct of staff and members, and the feeling of being safe. More so than even my parents, as I wasn’t seeing much continuous sanitising going on at their house.
