Quick Half Time Update

Not a good day for GM - yesterday looks a bit of a fluke sadly. Up in total by nearly 600. To not far below where they were 2 days ago. At 2144. Although that remains the lowest aside from yesterday in 9 days.

Regional numbers:

London 1575 - down from 1739

Midlands 2152 - Up from 1726

North East 1302 - Up from 1039

Yorkshire 2994 - up from 2906

And North West 3915 - up from 3246 - although apart from yesterday lowest in three weeks.

However, as GM was responsible for almost all that increase it was good for the NW but not so much for GM with the % of the NW total - up 7% on yesterday to 55% of the NW total.

Just about the highest share it has been.

GM sadly is still at the centre of the whole UK pandemic though the numbers last two days are a little down on the past week or two.

In GM everywhere went up on yesterday except Bolton - which only lost a handful to just creep under 200 for the first time in a while.

Wigan was up into the 300s again but Manchester, up too, and just pipped it so no repeat of its number one status.

Oldham up a lot sadly too - by over 100 on the day. Salford also up big into the 200s again.

Trafford back up to its more normal numbers not the unexpected 88 of yesterday.

The rest fairly run of the mill modest rises with 6 of the ten boroughs in and around the mid 100s.

More later but the hospital numbers updated for 2 days and there was a big rise in numbers all over the UK.

And in ventilator numbers too sadly.

NW did relatively well out of it. Compared to elsewhere but still a lot and is now within a handful of equalling the numbers it had at the peak of the first wave in hospital.

Very probably will top it tomorrow.

More detail after the game.

England hospital data - two days worth,

Patients Mon Up 739 from 9077 to 9816 - Tue Up 561 to 10, 377 (Up 1300 in 48 hours)

Was 8171 last Tuesday.

Ventilators Mon up 81 from 802 to 883 - Tue up 69 to 952 - a huge rise here in 48 hours too.

Was 742 last Tuesday.

Worrying increases here over the two days.

Does anyone else here have children overseas that they haven't seen in months?
My lad lives in the Czech Republic now, has done since 2016. Teaches English as a second language, mainly to those in business
Czech had very few cases initially, but it's gone very high now.
I keep telling him to "keep safe" but it's still very worrying :-(

I live in the Netherlands, the situation here is the same as the uk, the cases are going up ( testing increased ) but the deaths are no way near what we were in the peak and have been stable all summer and basically reflect the beginning you would expect for the start of flu season. Czech republic looks to be on an upward curve in fatalities but still the peak is under 200. Is he fit and healthy?

Yes. Our son and wife live in Madrid. He has had a restaurant there for 3 years, but has thrown the towel in after recent lockdowns. We were due to go there in June, but obviously didn’t make it. Not seen him for over a year now.

Yes, I think so. He is 38 and quite healthy but has to go from workplace to college to workplace because he is self employed and that's how he does his lessons.
Some of his pupils have tested positive already, but the money from the Czech government isn't great.....it's certainly a help but I worry that he will try and carry on.

It's so sad isn't it. I'd love to see my son.

That sucks, did they get any help from the government out there?

He got some, yes. Which I didn't expect really. It wasn't great, but it certainly helped.
Just keeping my fingers crossed now that he gets a bit of help again.

oops sorry....just realised that was meant for another poster

Yes a teacher I know from my running club was telling me about a 50th birthday house party her and husband went to a couple of weekends ago where they had to sneak in via the back garden. She thought that was funny. She is 55. Not just the young uns

Hence the reason for the lockdown. Although cases are levelling, this won’t impact on hospital admissions for some weeks. The damage was done a few weeks ago and once again I fear we have acted too late.

Claims UK vaccine is imminent

Pulse Today write...

Exclusive A new DES is set to be announced imminently for practices and PCNs to start administering a Covid vaccine from the beginning of December, Pulse understands.

Practices and PCNs will be asked to prepare to give the vaccine to over 85s and front line workers from the start of December, numerous sources have confirmed to Pulse.

There are currently two vaccines that are being prepared, with one requiring two shots and needing to be kept at minus 70 degrees.

Alongside GPs and PCNs, there will be teams delivering it to care homes, and at-scale delivery centres.

Pulse understands there will be sufficient resources allocated to practices.

A number of sources have confirmed to Pulse that an announcement around the DES is imminent, potentially by next week.

It is expected that the vaccines will be delivered in a number of ways, with teams going to care homes and delivery centres, such as those reported by the Economist and the Sun.

Pulse reported last month that the NHS was looking to start the rollout of the vaccine from December, with sources close to the issue putting the chances at ’50/50′.

It has now been confirmed to Pulse by numerous sources that GPs and the whole of the NHS are going to be put on standby to start vaccinating over-85s and frontline workers from early December.

It remains unclear exactly which vaccines will be administered, but Pfizer’s vaccine in development has to be kept at minus 70 degrees, while the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine was shown to be more effective when administered in two doses.

There is also no indication as to the efficacy of any vaccine, and the chief scientific officer Sir Patrick Vallance has been keen to play down the chances of an effective vaccine.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: ‘While there are no certainties in the development, production, and timing of new vaccines, there is a possibility a COVID 19 vaccine could be available in the UK in the first part of 2021.

‘It will only be rolled out once proven to be safe and effective through robust clinical trials and approved by medicines regulator the MHRA.

‘Once approved, the NHS stands ready to begin the vaccination programme to those most at risk, before being rolled out more widely.’
