Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

This attack was built around David Silva. We need to find a new playmaker. Who can hold the ball find space and pass like Dave? Answer that and we win again.

The team has been set up with Silva for so long. The midfield is missing a crucial part. We are trying to find a new way to attack and so far it is not working.

Dias seems to have sorted the komps issue. How long until we fix the silva issue?

A draw was a fair result, but not enough from Sterling, De Bruyne, and Torres.
Walker did some stupid things and Ederson frightens me to death at times.

They were there for the taking tonight, but both teams seemed happy with the draw after the first few minutes of the second half.

There's no point looking at the table or the number of goals we've scored so far, imo.

No injuries from the int. break and I'm convinced we'll go on a decent run up until our usual blip over xmas.

Come March I predict we'll either be top or no more than a few points from it.

Maybe so, but how do you replace one of the best attacking midfielders with possibly the best off the ball movement in the past decade? There's literally no player we can sign that'll replicate what he did.

I agree with this and it annoys me to read in the papers this weekend that he is doing really well at his new club.

Shame we got distracted my the Messi thing and perhaps should have spent time, effort and money to try to pursuade Silva to stay for a couple more years, afterall he is younger than Messi is he not? (I think)

Although these are professional players being paid a lot of money, let’s not pretend like in any walk of life support is important. Imagine actors/singers playing in front of empty theatres month after month. Pep has alluded to it, without fans the game is going through the motions. You can tell he does not enjoy it. I know some are critical of our support, but imagine the Etihad in that last 20 minutes, we would be urging the team forwards. Convinced that’s why it’s more open this year.

KDB doesn't look fit, there's no fluidity in his running, 10 yard passes don't reach and the pen today topped it off.
Maybe he's having late nights with his little un as he looks jaded.
One positive from today is them rats aren't top.

we just need a spark and the chains will be off ? we looked better at the back today and yes KDB is out of salts and needs a rest in my book. anyway its a good point and we matched them and if we just had that bit more confidence just to gamble then i think we could have taken all 3 points

I like your optimism but despite looking stronger defensively we have looked shit elsewhere, hence winning just three games and Pep seems to have a penchant for the wrong players and combinations of players. It does not bode well at all imo.

Drawing a lot of games is usually a sign of a poor season if you are aiming for the title. You can probably only draw 7 or 8 games max and win the league.. we’ve nearly used up half of our quota 20% into the season.

scored 10 goals.. dropped 9 points says it all. 7 games in and we have scored just one more goal than we have leaked points. That is piss poor.
It's not going to be your usual season where one team romps it, forget your 90 plus points and only drawing a couple and losing a couple, whoever wins it is doing it with an all time low points total.
Nobody is looking out on their own, the league leaders beat us and then got battered at home to West ham.
Everybody else is piss poor, I wouldn't get too bothered about things.

I get where you're coming from but I think his time had come. His class is obvious, as was evident back in June/July but relying on him to have the physicality to play for us 15 times a week just wasn't going to happen.

Not strictly related to the game, but I'm excited for Silva to get his due praise once the world realises just how magical he has been.

Back 4 looks the business.
Just need the rest to get in shape.
No idea if it will happen due to lack of pre season and playing 2 games very week.

Ya Ya, Merlin and Sane gone. Fernandinho past it now. That’s one hell of a midfield we have lost in recent years. We are in transition. A bit of patience is required whilst we rebuild the midfield. Defence is now sorted. A Dzeko like ST is needed and we will be ready to dominate again.

These things take time.

Foden was sat on the bench mate.

Not sure Leicester City will agree, and the way this season is going it might be similar to then where around 80pts might be enough for top spot.

Chance missed had them in the ropes 2nd half and why do we miss penalties in big games ? Aguero in the champs league at spurs mahrez at Anfield just not good enough

I doubt it will happen but we need reinforcements in January - the midfield needs an overhaul desperately - we aint winning much with gundogan and Rodri its as simple as that....

Pep has to braver and only play one of them (personally that is rodri for me) and play lots of legs around him - now he has the back four more sorted and secure the double pivot or tandem pairing of Rodri/gundo needs to be binned - if he doesnt we are in for a frustrating season.

Pep's lost his bottle. By all means come on and call me a rag, a wus or anything else you want on one condition. Explain why with 15 minutes to go and key players so dead on their feet that they couldn't pass, had no desire to get forward, clearly were playing out time and he made 1 sub? He got Foden ready and had multiple chances to get him on. We have 1 fit striker and this was his first full game yet he risked injury keeping him on. You are welcome to explain Pep's thinking.

It is also why the entire season should be played behind closed doors.. imagine going to Anfield at the back end of the season and playing them in front of their fans and there being zero point difference between the clubs.. it needs to be totally fair.

That said I think there is zero chance of fans in stadiums this season.

Can’t understand how people are disappointed with that performance. Sure, we were closer to the 3 points but didn’t take them but there were lots of positives. Apart from the howler against Leicester we have only conceded 4 goals and finally it seems like we have a reliable defence. I am normally quick to complain about Rodri/Gundo but today I thought they were great. If anything, our disappointing players were Kyle, Raz and KDB.

Think we’ll have a good chance to win the title this year once we get our fitness levels back and start scoring again.
