The Conservative Party

Another U-turn. Going against all his MP who voted against it. Will they have another vote in Parliament or will they ride roughshod over our democracy?? No need to answer that as we know already.

Funny thing is on the news you see Marcus Rashford saying the PM kept thanking him for his work on the project......once again the Clown in Chief feigns ignorance of Rashfords campaign and secondly it further throws MP's under the bus who voted for Johnsons Nasty Party decision only to be left looking a twat to the poor in their constituency. Events over the pond should stiffen a few backbones and show how much total faith in a lying charlatan who only has his own interests at heart can damage your own career

Raab was just as bad on Sky.

"Do you think all votes should be counted in a democratic election?"

"Well..We have a special relationship with the US..."

"It's a simple question. Do you think all votes should be counted in a democratic election?"

"The United States has a system of checks and balances..."

"That's not what I asked..."

Thats because the Conservative manifesto commits to

1) Getting rid of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act.

2) Re writing Parliamentary boundaries (gerrymandering again)

3) Continued support for the First Past the Post System (so popular in the UK and Belarus)

4) Introducing a requirement to produce identification when voting.

5) Reducing the ability to vote via Post.

6) Making it easier for British ExPats to vote.

7) Maintaining the minimum voting age at 18.

So as a party they obviously want to suppress the vote as much as possible.

Agree with the author, Supermarkets should have never been eligible for this rate relief when they were one of the few places to stay open, increased profitability and because coronavirus was beneficial in bringing forward their long-term modernisation plans. Would have made much more sense to have given money with conditions attached (no buy-backs/dividends/ or redundancy limits) or to taken an equity stake in the business- If it is not appropriate because of the business/sector remains profitable or it is too much interference then the financial help needs to go where there is a greater need.

"Sainsbury’s received relief on business rates worth £230m in the first half of its financial year, and now it’s paying £231m in dividends to shareholders. Since the Qatar Investment Authority, with a 21% stake, will be the biggest beneficiary, it’s not too much of a stretch to say Sainsbury’s is also feeding the nation of Qatar with dividends."

£67 million that the Government has indirectly diverted away from local authority coffers and into a foreign country's sovereign wealth fund. About time they got serious and set up one of own.

I completely agree.

In addition to supermarkets remaining open, weekly spend for each customer in supermarkets would have increased dramatically due to the closure of other stores, pubs and restaurants. I know my weekly big shop spend has gone up with buying additional booze etc,

LFL sales were through the roof and understand categories had already hit their annual sales targets back in March. Sainsbury's is now on my boycott list.

2) is not gerrymandering. It's that the constituencies are based on the electorate, and the poor are more mobile and less likely to be on the current electoral register - i.e. a "home-owning democracy" is easier to register than a home-renting democracy. The poll tax - by design or accident - meant loads of people "disappeared". (I don't gamble but I got odds from William Hill on the 1991 census showing a decrease in population when it clearly should have increased - they gave me 20/1 against, and it did go down - in the end I think the census was fiddled -"compensated" - to make it realistic. I didn't place a bet.)

But the outcome is that every boundary change favours the Tories. But as the NRG ("Red Wall Tories") realise that it's their constituencies that may disappear (as they reduce the Commons to 600 seats), it may not seem such a good idea (without them it would just be Labour seats being abolished).

But the Boundary Commission is an odd beast. I know one constituency where the boundary runs through the middle of a house and the Commission seems determined to leave it one constituency while the rest of the street is in another.

Not really something to celebrate.

Just re-affirming to their base that they no longer have free movement - the rest of us knew that already. Wayne and Waynetta are in for a fucking shock when they want to go to Benidorm next year. Fucking EU will make it cost more, their pound will buy less and they will have to join a long queue with fucking foreigners to get into Spain - I mean whats that all about???

I doubt that tourist resort airports will want to annoy Brits so unless it's got an EU flight at the same time it won't make much difference (e.g. maybe at Malaga or Palma). It will be using international business airports (for business or footie) where being "non-EU" will bite.

Dido Harding talking complete bollocks to the select committee. "Can't give any figures because we have er...different teams...I'm very happy to write to the committee..."

She sounds like a female Boris.

Drag this post back up in a week/a month/6 months when the latest U turn is that they follow Wales and Scotland in scrapping exams next year, despite wasting loads of time saying they won't.

These arseholes think saying no, no, no in the face of what they will obviously have to reverse is political strength - when each time they are made to look like idiots. Thats what you get for trying to follow the trump playbook.

School's reopening in June, school dinner last summer, exams last summer, school dinners again, lockdown and many more.

The arrogance that they consistently saying"no, no, no" will work in the face of overwhelming evidence and the stupidity in always making the same mistake.
