There are plenty of others who have had to endure such things being a little different this year, Eid, Dihwali amongst others.

Nobody is suggesting Xmas would be struck from the calender but may perhaps have to not be centred around the kids getting a couple of grands worth of shite, and the adults not being able to go here there and everywhere in order to get rat arsed with as many people as possible.

It would actually mean some having to make the effort to have what in effect would not be too far off a traditional christmas in the more true historic British fashion.

You never know many might actually prefer it having never experienced it in the recent past.

Either way the thought of making this pandemic worse or longer than it need be so millions can act the fucking goat for a week doesnt meet with what i see as the brightest ideas. Sadly as we have seen during this bright ideas have been few and far between.

I agree about there being few years when children believe, I agree they are precious. I don’t see though why restrictions should impact on a family Christmas or stop Santa delivering gifts on Christmas night.
Hope they can be eased by Christmas though, hoping we are 2 or 3 weeks into vaccinations by then.

Understood but if by having this Xmas in lockdown it would mean there would be less who xmas it is the last and more who will be around to see the next one then........you decide.
 
Is this lockdown actually doing anything? The only difference to tier 3 seems to be pubs and some shops are shut although quite a few seem to be getting round it. Traffic levels seem to be unchanged. What really is the point? It’s nothing like the March/April lockdown.

In the end families will decide for themselves, you can have whatever level of official lockdown you like, on Christmas day many families will still decide to mix households, especially grandparents visiting grandchildren. Doubt a full lockdown would change that many families decisions on visiting close family or deciding on not visiting.
The only difference a lockdown over Christmas would have is stopping the crowded pubs. Which isn’t a bad idea.

It isn’t supposed to be like the first lockdown, whether it’s working will take another 2 weeks to see.

My heart bleeds , tell kids what is going on , in a child friendly way , kids have to adapt to divorce, illness, broke parents , all kinds of things , they understand things have to be different this year

As i always say, a pandemic is not supposed to be fair , you make the best of it and do your bit to protect you and yours ,others, you dont want to explain why granny died two weeks later

A huge spike in january will kill thousands, it is not worth it

I know, terrible to think that 500k people will die next year and won't have seen their families on their last ever Xmas. Considering the average age of someone that dies of the virus is 82 and highly likely would have passed in the next 12 months anyway, would be interesting to see if they would rather enjoy their last Xmas or be sat in on their own.

Doesn't a true British Xmas revolve around seeing family, the very thing that we can't do? I'm not suggesting everyone should go on the lash for 2 weeks and have huge Xmas parties, but the current alternative is going to mean hundreds of thousands of people won't see any family on their last ever Xmas. Heartbreaking.

More people are reaching late nineties and 100 than ever before, it might only be their last dec 25th because you gave them covid

I honestly cant see what it is that is meant to be working? I went to Urmston this morning to get some shopping and every shop was open,and packed,people were carrying on like any other Saturday.

This isn't a lockdown by any stretch of the imagination.

Either way lockdown will ruin more Xmas's than covid ever will and the point is this latest one is not needed to this extent. I won't be giving it anyone as I haven't got it, and seen as though I'm working from home and barely seeing anyone it's pretty unlikely in going to catch it unless I'm very unlucky.

I'm planning on getting a test a couple of days before then I'm good to go providing it's negative. Going to do the rounds then on Xmas day.

Gyms shut, hairdressers/beauty salons shut, churches/mosques shut, shops shut, restaurants shut, holidays cancelled, weddings cancelled. Whether it’s doing anything is a different matter.

I would very much agree with that. We have what I would call a traditional Christmas. My youngest kids are late teens, but we always do a pantomime, go ice skating together. We visit my elderly aunt in Wetherby and take her to my Dads grave and she takes us for lunch. We take my mum and dad to church on Christmas Eve. We visit close family and a couple of friends during the lead up to Christmas. Christmas Day we usually have our grown up children and grandchildren. If lockdown continues, not one of those activities could take place.

Patients up 12, 199 to 12, 538 (last Sat was 10, 535)

Ventilators up big 1088 - 1158 (last Sat was 982)

North West patents up just 1o to 2947. (last Sat was 2872 - so only 75 up in 7 days)

Ventilators up 267 to 280 (last Sat was 256) - but getting a little worryingly nearer to the 350 that were on ventilators at the peak of wave 1 in April.
