Games you went to and wished you had been somewhere else

Ipswich away late eighties. Took us ages to get there in an old VW Beetle. Missed the kickoff. As I was paying at the turnstile Ipswich scored. I said “typical - all this way and one nil already”. The guy replied “actually, it’s two nil”.
Also Walsall away in cup on a snow covered pitch. Didn’t watch the second half it was so cold. Just huddled around a radio drinking cups of bovril round the back of the stand.

I went to west brom away when Santa Cruz was sub/subbed.
Awful drive, awful weather, awful game

Pretty much every game in the 90’s , but on the flip side I’m glad I was at pretty much every game in the 90’s .....

At home when we lost to Forest. Can’t remember the year but Leslie was manager. We were fuckin dreadful
Was that the night cup game where Wayne Bridge was brought out at half time and hailed as our wonderful new signing?
You’re right it was dreadful!

I'd been moved from 117 as it was a cup game and put into 220 or whatever block was right and I mean right next to the Forest fans, not pleasant.

This game also always makes me wonder about a chain smoking German and his gambling debts, especially that throw-in he took.

Wigan 4 - 0 City

early kick off, so get up whilst the rest of the house was still asleep, 5 hour drive down the road, 1 down after 60 seconds, 2 down after 4 minutes. With Corradi and Samaras up front, Matt Mills at centre half and Pearce shouting at clouds from the bench.

Then a 5 hour drive back again, with the bonus of an early kick off meaning I could have caught Match of the Day.

Everton away, I was in with the dippers. Margetson had sprayed his hands with WD40 before kick off and we were 4-0 down at half time.

Wigan FA Cup final got the tickets the Wednesday before the game so all the trains and coaches were spoken for so had to drive. Terrible atmosphere all day with the news Mancini was going, blues fighting each other all game. What topped it off was the avalanche of rain that fell on the final whistle, piss wet through and a long drive home. I was so happy to see the signs for the M60 probably the best part of the day.
