Our attack - what's off?

We faced massed defences in 11/12 . We toyed with them for a while and if they stayed too deep we let Yaya run right over them. Plus when we crossed into the box we had Edin to challenge . We had so many options now we're a one trick poney. This Team wouldn't stand a chance against 11/12 team.
And Clichy was a great left back.

If you look at that goal yes City are knocking the ball around quickly but also arsenal are in our half trying to close us down.
Teams dont do that know they only close us down by the 18 yard box now. Spurs tonight I think didnt try to put our defence under pressure just all 11 retreated back to just in front of their box. Teams are defending even deeper against us now
Mate teams were parking the bus against us most weeks years before that and were certainly doing it during that season.

Our team has become KDB FC in terms of creativeness. Stop Kev, you stop us.

Sterling, Sane and Silva were racking up double figure assists each. We've lost 2 of them players and Sterling got 1 assist last season and has 1 so far in this one(probably due to being on the left).
We play wingers on their cut in positions so you'd hope we have creative fullbacks...Nope we have Mendy who was brilliant at it but has since lost the ability to cross and we have Walker who never had that ability. Cancelo has done a decent job at creating the chances Sterling should be doing from the left but doesn't have the footballing intelligence to do so.
Torres and Foden are more direct than creative. Mahrez can be when he isn't being a gannet and Bernardo isn't anything he just runs and recycles possession

But our manager back then didn’t say hello to Chappy the Rag media grass/mole in the morning back then so he had to go

In my opinion we have a very simple problem which is David Silva got old and left.

Thats it. Bernardo has lost his spark, Gundogan isn't doing much around the box, Foden can be magic but hes still incredibly inexperienced and loses the ball too much.

That lack of creativity means Mahrez is picked out wide, because hes one of the most creative players in the league.

But that slows our play down and is ultimately counterproductive. It also takes away a threat in the box and makes us lopsided and narrow in attack with no one really wide on the right.

We needed to replace David Silva with a ball hogging, subtle, creative attacking midfielder who has the brain and skill to unlock a defence but the work rate and pace to defend well too.

There are 4 solutions to this IMO.

1) Fix Bernardo. 2018 Bernardo would fix everything. Dont know what's wrong with him, it is not tiredness, but he just hasn't been the player he was in 2018/2019 since that season ended (it predates the racism row). It's a mental problem which seems like it won't go away on its own.

2) Go with Foden and accept we will concede goals because of his mistakes while he learns but try to score a lot more.

3) Go back to Lyon on January 1st and buy Aouar which I think would solve our problem overnight.

4) Get Messi in and just replace Mahrez with him because he is 100x the player and actually will dictate the game and create and score the goals from RW.

I really don't think we have a lot of problems, it is just one big one that is pretty catastrophic because the way Pep is trying to coach around it is throwing everything off.

It's a Pep Guardiola side. If the midfield isn't working then none of it will.
