I sed to go out with a policewoman from Birkenhead. Her dad used to be an inspector in the Birkenhead Borough Constabulary. Her mother worked with Glenda Jackson there. So they should have known what she was talking about.
But she said that 'scouser' and 'scally' depended on what side of the Mersey you came from. I am not so sure she was right unless l got it wrong, not being a good listener . Could you tell me what your view is on the two nicknames?
I would say that Scally is a name for an idiot that we all know within our cities or towns. Never heard it said for our chums over the river . There are some who call them 'Wools' or 'Plazzy Scousers' but I tend to think we are all alike. Most of us have family and friends who live or work on either side of the Mersey.
