Diego Maradona

still Laugh at the image of him walking past Reidy for that second goal

great player and Napoli legend but looking back, Diego living in the heart of Mafia country was never going to end well

RIP

Sad to hear, seemed to live his life on the edge, and burning the candle at both ends, but what a player, don’t think there’s ever been a greater sight than seeing Maradona in full flow.
RIP.

R.I.P legend

lived his life to the max and packed more into 60 years than most would do in 2 lifetimes
love him at the manchester city derby 2012 singing hey jude with all the city fans after city won 1.0

Genuinely upset about this, 60 is no age really. A surefire contender for GOAT and a game changing, ball juggling, piss taking player of epic proportions. If you haven't seen the film about him then do make the effort. RIP

Best destroyed himself with alcohol, Diego with drugs. They both played the beautiful game, and RIP to both of them.
This is perhaps neither the place nor time, but my greatest admiration goes to Pelé, both as a player, and as a man.

Was genuinely shocked when I saw the news on the BBC News frontpage. Like you I made the link with Best. Two great footballers but both were bad examples as men- no judgement intended. Best grew up with an alcoholic mother and Maradona's family was among the poorest where he lived. It's no surprise that they were probably emotionally stunted and IMO as a result and struggled with the effects of fame and money, developing addictions and making bad life choices.

Managed to find the Maradona game I remembered from years ago I wanted to post as a tribute, unfortunately with all the software updates it doesn't work anymore. You'll get the picture though.

End of the day he did what he had to do to win the match . Are you saying if it had been the other way round the England would have said “ no goal i punched it in “ it was the 1/4 final and winner takes all so .
What a load of bollocks, he cheated and that is it at the end of the day, it wasn't an England player so that is irrelevant really.

Ask an Irishman how they feel about Henry.

I was seething when the c**t cheated us in '86 and happily jeered his every touch at Wembley in '87.

Have to admit that he was a maestro with the ball at his feet though and it's a life worth celebrating, not least because of the theatre of it all, both good and bad.
